Difficult, I'll have to think about this.

I just voted for one - Rod Stewart

I have a pair of Rod's split knee loon pants that his brother gave me in 1984 if that helps....

I haven't heard half of these dudes, but if any of them compare to Rod Stewart, then I'd like to. It seems to me that he's the prohibitive front runner.

If it's that kind of voice you're looking for, I recommend fellow Scot Frankie Miller.

His album Highlife was produced by Allen Toussaint.

From this list it's a very close run thing between Rod, Paul, Steve W and Steve M. Love the music they all made but I think I will have to go for Rod. Steve M. lost it for me with Humble Pie but his performance on Tin Soldier and All or Nothing are hard to beat. I know they weren't 70s singles but it showed what he could do with a little restraint.

Also could have included Jack Bruce, perhaps?

Shout out for Chappo. Amazing voice.
Family was too unknown on the European continent, and I was pretty young during that band's heyday so I don't know their stuff very well, but saw him with The Streetwalkers in the late 70s and was very impressed. Superb performer too. Liked his solo stuff backed by a band called The Shortlist. Live in Hamburg and Mail Order Magic are pretty decent albums. Voted for Marriott and Reid as well. Fucking hate everything Rod Stewart stands for. Really glad Clapton is not in the list. And yes, Jack Bruce should have been in there

Jack Bruce, yes.

Clapton has not much of a voice.

Surely the best rock singer of the 70s is Freddie Mercury. Isn't he one of the best rock singers ever?

To love Mercury one has to love Queen.

Is that true? Can't one recognise his ability even if you don't like what he singing (though god knows why anyone do that)?

I don't like Queen, but will readily acknowledge Mercury's powerful stage presence.

Thanks for making me feel young, Yves.
Long John Baldry was Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog, right? That was some good growling.

I don't think anyone can really defend Joe Cocker. Why didn't he just see a doctor?
