Just heard from Jon Kirkman that Les passed away in his home on Edinburgh, age 65.
The Rollers were pretty big in our neck of the woods too.

Re: RIP Les Mckeown
My little sister had the Once Upon a Star album
I always liked it - I even own a copy now.
Phil Wainman of course. He tamed down what he was doing for Sweet and Mud but there is still an element in there.
Les was not a great singer. Or a great frontman.
And the Rollers weren't a very good band.
But they were a moment in our history.

Gosh, 65 is no age. I can confidently say that he was my first crush - his insistence on wearing jackets over a bare chest was quite something at the time!
I didn’t know that he was still in the public eye to any extent and I didn’t know he was so troubled. His Twitter feed is something to behold. I also didn’t know he was apparently gay, which his wife appeared to accept. I still love a good old BCR tune. What a sad scenario.
I hope he just had a massive coronary. I know that sounds awful, but when it says someone died suddenly at home, it’s normally self inflicted and I can’t bear thinking of anyone being that troubled.
RIP Les. S A T U R D A Y!

In the 70s I did not really get into Rollers, but in hindsight I think they were alright. Had some some solid hits, but I never got past a comp until just recently. RIP Les McKeown
Rollermania was pretty intense, and I don't think any British boy band that followed could match that.

An affectionate (and brilliantly done) tribute:
No doubt Les enjoyed it.

On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

I hope the house rules in the hereafter don't prevent him from giving Tam Paton a good booting.
