I'll definitely look into it, but I don't think that 2010 will be my year for travelin'.

Is it too early to book our tour to Alcatraz?

Is it? Is it? Is it?

Flights with BA at around £370

I posted a link on the other thread of a ppace I was looking at - Buena Vista on Lombard St. No frills but reasonable location. 6 nights just over £300

Is that direct Paul? I'm seriously considering this now - I'm sure we'll be able to get decent hotel prices via Hotwire/Priceline? The flights are crucial though - I do not want indirect flights!! (Thinking about it, BA & Virgin both fly direct, don't they?).

Virgin aren't quoting any prices via Expedia that far ahead but I think they mirror BA prices. BMI also fly direct. I'll probably go with BA as they have a later flight which will make it easier for me having to get to Heathrow.

I mentioned it before, but I'll say it again, there are definitely some hotel ghettos in San Francisco, but it depends what you want to do or see after walking out the front door. Fisherman's Wharf has lots of hotel, Van Ness and the adjoining area down from Van Ness near the Tenderloin, Union Square, and Lombard St.

If it were me, I'd look into Lombard St, where Minnie stays. It's got the Marina district on one side of Lombard and Union St., which has a good selection of bars and restaurants on the other. It's kinda far away from downtown, but just over the hill from Fisherman's Wharf and such.

Fisherman's Wharf is very touristy, but west of the Wharf, you have some nice walking areas leading to Marina Green.

Union Square is near the major theaters and all the major department stores.

Van Ness and the area near the Tenderloin would be my last choice, but that's where Kid P and Les stayed when we got together a couple mos ago.

Six String comes into the city pretty frequently and probably has some good insights into hotels.

I don't know how you guys work---if you tend to bunch up at places or just kinda scatter and reconnoiter at set times.
Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk!

Share a hotel room with me, Pete.

We could have a sweepstake on how soon we headbutt each others teeth out.
