It’s Summer. It’s L.A. Shall we?

Postby TG » 15 Jul 2018, 16:39

Some months back (was it up near Ventura or down near Disneyland?) we talked about a summer JU with the possibility of getting together with guitars and drums as well. Not sure we’ll have enough folks for that but who knows? Anyone? Anyone?

There is the new and improved Cat & Fiddle or that barrel shaped place in NoHo (Idle Hour?)

I'm in too. If it's in LA a Friday night is best for me, but I'll try to make a Saturday or Sunday as well. As always, if it's Saturday and I'm playing in Burbank, I'll have to leave by late afternoon/early evening. But you're always welcome to continue the party at my gig.

The new Cat and Fiddle would be a good place for a JU - I've been a couple times since they re-opened, and there's no parking lot, but street parking is much easier than the old location. And the set up is conducive - it's where Highland Grounds used to be.

As of now I don't really know my August schedule, but I'm pretty booked for the rest of July, so maybe an August date?

This sounds fun. I have a few things in August: 8/1 through 8/4 are out, and probably anything after 8/20 or so -- going out of town till mid-September. Probably. (I'll know more in a couple days.)

8/10 (eve), 8/11 or 8/12 would probably be the best for me, but possibly 8/17 (eve), 8/18 or 8/19. Or of course September or beyond.

Good for me too. No gig that night, so whatever time works best for everyone. Should a jam happen, I'd be in.

So I assume (and am now hoping) this isn't happening this weekend?

The 18th is out for me, but Friday or Sunday is fine for me, as is anything past mid-September as far as I know now (other than the 29th or 30th when I'll be out of town).

So now that I've given you my dates, if you want to exclude me, you know just how to time it! :D

I’ll keep watching this space but there doesn’t seem to be much interest right now.

I have been busy/frazzled for a couple weeks, and will continue to be. September is still good though and that would be fun!

I can still do Saturday. This business of waiting until everyone has a free day is probably not going to work. You pick a day where most people can do it and go from there.

(To Matt - ) I'm in agreement with what you're saying, but since you're the ONLY one available Saturday, and tons of people haven't checked in, this weekend's probably not good. I made other plans 'cause it didn't look like it was happening, but with enough advance notice I can pretty much always be counted on.

(To Tom - ) I say just set a date in September (for me, preferably a Friday or Sunday, but I would do my best to make a Saturday work, gig or no) and stick to it. Then if it ends up just being you and Matt, at least you tried. :)

Dave, I thought I made myself clear, but if not I'll elaborate: It doesn't need to be THIS Saturday. Someone just needs to pick a date where MOST of us can come.

I'm officially out for the rest of September, which is a shame as I like you guys and I need a beer.

Haven't seen any of you since the last JU. Except Todd. I have run into Todd a few times. But the rest of you - nada!

What can we do about this?

It's gonna take a visitor. And possibly a miracle as well.

The suspense is always worth the payoff, though. We're just SUCH fascinating critters, ain't we?

(I was going to make a Samuel Beckett "Waiting For Goldwax" reference, but I think I did that once before.)

I'm not sure how many of you guys are aware, but I'm having major health issues which have been limiting my ability to go out much these days or stay out too long. Most of you know that I have been dealing with Parkinson's disease for a while, and the sudden acceleration of progress in my symptoms over the six months has been at a level that the first 12 years did nothing to prepare me to expect. I'm still doing okay enough to have visitors, but I have only a limited amount of time these days before I'd better be home and not need to deal with the road. So from here on, just make whatever plans you guys want, assuming that I won't able to be there, and if you get one going, and that day I feel that I have the stamina, I'll do what I can.
