Anaheim / LA ... anyone around Sat 7th April?

Events people say they're coming to until a day or so before the event.

Anaheim / LA ... anyone around Sat 7th April?

Postby Neil Jung » 21 Mar 2018, 16:02

Hi,

The family and I are touring the west coast and on Sat 7th April we are driving over to Anaheim from Santa Monica and the girls will be at Disneyland for most of the day. We are staying at the nearby Sheraton Park Hotel, where I will be at a loose end...

I know you only had a Jolly Up quite recently, but if anyone local fancies meeting up nearby I’d be very pleased to buy them a beer and share my theory about Neil Young’s loss of quality control.

Anaheim's a bit tough for most of us as it's far from LA (and even tougher in my case, as I don't live in LA at all, but equally far away in the opposite direction), but we did manage this many years ago for Beenieman, so it could happen again. As of now I'm free that day, and if there's any way I can get there I'll definitely try to.

I'm into it. The only thing I didn't enjoy about the Beenieman experience was that we had to go to some place that was next to Disneyland because of time/distance constraints, so it was a generic mega-eatery filled with Disneyland families. Do you have the whole day free? It might be nice to go somewhere better, and maybe get some record shopping in as well?

The Olde Ship in Fullerton -- possibly boring as hell for you, but it's a place I like, especially in the afternoon.

There are quite a few record stores in the vicinity too...

Sounds good. I will have most of the day, once we’ve found our way there.. I think we can’t check in until maybe 4pm. I guess I’d be able to park the hire car at the hotel, so would definitely be up for going somewhere better and record shopping, if you can pick me up and drop me back (not sure if I’m up to driving around LA by myself, having watched too much Harry Bosch on tv).

Sounds great -

Can you clarify the timetable on that day. It sounds like you are driving from SM to Anaheim, then they are going to Disneyland, but who is checking in at the hotel, when are the kids coming out of Disneyland, etc.? They definitely want to be at Disneyland as early as possible, for maximum time spent.

Also, to be clear, the things I mentioned are nearby Anaheim, rather than up in L.A. L.A. would be fun too if time permits one day.

How many days will you be around? What are you doing the day before and the day after? (Sorry, too many questions.)

It sounds like you are driving from SM to Anaheim,
Yes, leaving maybe 9am, getting to Anaheim by 10am. Knowing us, unlikely to be earlier.

then they are going to Disneyland,
Yes, I am dropping them off.

but who is checking in at the hotel,
We can’t check in to the hotel until 4pm I believe, so I will have to do something with the car and later coordinate the hotel check in with Janet, Em and Holly.

when are the kids coming out of Disneyland, etc.? They definitely want to be at Disneyland as early as possible, for maximum time spent.
We just can’t say! Might well be some time in the evening as I think it’s open until late.

Also, to be clear, the things I mentioned are nearby Anaheim, rather than up in L.A. L.A. would be fun too if time permits one day.
OK.

How many days will you be around? What are you doing the day before and the day after?
Wed 4th April. We arrive in Santa Monica (Doubletree Suites) from San Luis Obispo in the evening, so no spare time.
Thu 5th April. Looking around Santa Monica and surrounds. Taking photos. Shopping etc.
Fri 6th April. More of the same. No specific plans in place either day! More planning reqd.
Sat 7th April. As above, driving to Anaheim etc.
Sun 8th April. Driving to Sequoia National Park. No spare time.

I won’t rule out Anaheim but it’s a long haul. Perhaps a Friday night JU in Santa Monica or L.A.? If not, then Anaheim is a possibility.

Yeah, if something happens on Friday night on the Santa Monica end of town, that might be easier than Anaheim for me. But I wouldn't rule either out. Thursday's possible, but Friday would be better - I could probably get there sooner and stay out later.

If you have the time, try and go whale watching at Morro Bay which is near San Luis. I took Kid P and his girlfriend and it's great. I've used this company many times.

We are booked to do whale watching from Monterey, but do keep the tips coming.

I must reread the BCB Travel Section.

What do you recommend for a couple of days in Santa Monica? Other than meeting for drinks! Which I could fit in if you can’t get to Anaheim, but Saturday is the day I have entirely free and would be my preference if we only have one meet.

That's good too. Off of Monterey is a huge sea trench and the sea life gravitates towards it.

I'm going to McCabes in Santa Monica Saturday night, unless it's raining.

No. Saturday April 7. Probably not: it's an hour or more from here to L.A. and almost as long again to Anaheim; then another hour or so back to Santa Monica, And:

Maybe you can meet up when they are driving PCH on the 3rd or the 4th.
