Your favourite PROG song

Postby The Prof » 10 Oct 2009, 01:37

Either Merlin's Kettle by Toad Awakening or A Faerie's Waltz by Pilchard Thawhog.

Tough choice.

Excellent.

Broad church my dear friend.

Broad church.

There are millions of robust tracks to select from, which for me is nigh on impossible, but Epitaph by the mighty King Crimson drenched in seminal mellotron would be up there amongst the most seminally robust prog tracks.

Great thread Prof my dear friend

Great thread

Good lad

I'm not a big progger. But the answer is probably "Supper's Ready".

How do you rate Musical Box from the seminal LP that came before?

Great thread Prof, it's really developing

Could be Crimson's "Red" or Yes' "Close To The Edge".

But I'll pick the dark horse: "De Futura" by Magma.

It's scary as hell, and the bass by Jannick Top is amazing.
You'd pay big bucks to know what you really think.

A rough top 5 ...

The Gates of Delirium - Yes
The Lord's Prayer - Roy Harper*
Turn of the Century - Yes
Supper's Ready - Genesis
Moon in June - Soft Machine*

* Not by prog (in the modern, almost pejorative sense of the word) artists per se, but these are quite long, progressive tracks by the artists listed.

I adore this track.

Probably the best track from their best album

It's pretty special. It just edges The Musical Box for me.
