Re: PC21- Semi Final- Match 6
Neu! 2 is often criticised as the album with one track which is repeated at different speeds.
Wiki puts it well:
Side 2 of the record caused consternation at the time. Neu! had quite simply run out of money to finish recording the album, so the second side consists entirely of their previously released single "Neuschnee/Super", manipulated at various playback speeds on a record player, or mangled in a cassette recorder. Critics at the time dismissed this as a cheap gimmick and a rip-off. While it was indeed an experiment born of desperation and necessity, it was entirely in keeping with Neu's pop art aesthetics, taking a "ready-made" sound object and re-presenting it with a series of stylized manipulations, and also quite in keeping with the way Neu's music deconstructed and pared down the form of rock music.
Fantastic stuff and full of music!
The other lot need to be good. Damn good.....
Well, SBB - apparently first known as Silesian Blues Band, later as Szukaj, Burz, Buduj – Polish for "Search, Break up, Build"
I really enjoyed it but I have 'heard' it a thousand times
Banco del Mutuo Soccorso but in Polish
Easy

B is simply marvelous - one of the 'discoveries' of the whole competition. Love the way it builds and expands and contracts on itself constantly. Possibly my favorite Neu piece I've ever heard. Now I want to hear the whole album.
A certainly features fantastic musicianship, but I'm not sure it really goes anywhere very interesting.

Re: PC21- Semi Final- Match 6
A was a solid piece of well played and executed Prog. Nothing new or particularly different but highly competent and enjoyable enough for all that and the final section was particularly strong with a good soaring guitar solo to finish.
B has a sweet simple melody and driving rhythm and highlights what I love about the best krautrock music. I love eating my greens too so....

A truly is well-done, and i love it as a pick.
alas, unfortunate match-up, cuz i lovvvvvve that neu track.
(i think this semi-final round has been stellar, myself.)

Re: PC21- Semi Final- Match 6
I think I travelled more with Neu 2 (and La Dusseldorf) than any other Krautrock-bands. Such a minimalistic approach and highly Efffizient in execution....so this doesn't bode well for a brave pick from A...

Despite quite enjoying the Neu choice, although its pretty boring, I'm going with kitchen sink approach of A.
I like the fact its sung in Polish, but as with most of its ilk, it drags in the middle.

I have a copy of Follow My Dream, the SBB album from 1978 that only came out on our side of the Iron Curtain.
I've never liked it much, had them coined as a not-very-melodic keyboard trio.
Very pleasantly surprised by the tasty guitar, love it, thanks to whoever picked this!

Re: PC21- Semi Final- Match 6
I’ve recommended SBB a couple of times in REAP Corner - glad someone was paying attention!
Excellent track.
B was inoffensive and rolls along pleasantly enough but it doesn’t really do anything so is ultimately unsatisfying. After 4 minutes I was thinking, seriously, was that it? Huh.
A resounding A.
