Re: PC21 Last Round Match 3
Poor old Rick didn't do too well in an earlier round I recall.
Of course, this is another corker from a seminally robust album
The Besnard Lakes, I have never heard of but it instantly reminds me of My Bloody Valentine around the Isn't Anything era. I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't Bilinda Butcher...!
It's very pleasant and I like it but the words 'derivative - not 'arf!' come to mind
Yes I did enjoy it very much and I am tempted...
Oh, what the hell, I love MBV so what's not to like about a copycat:

Sorry Rick

anuther great match.
okay, i love the jam of rickness.
but i hafta admit... i have never heard the band in B, but i got this strange, moved feeling, kinda the way i did the first time i heard the cocteaus. dunno why. don't care why. they must be rewarded. loved it.

Great jam from Wakeman, love that whole album
The Besnard Lakes (which I keep misreading as the Barenaked Ladies) is totally new and I really enjoyed the harmonies on this one. A very strong song.
With apologies to Rick I'll go for B here.

Re: PC21 Last Round Match 3
I've already mentioned my sentimental love for the album A is from. It's possible to beat, but it would take some doing. And B, which does sound a bit like the Cocteau Twins (and constitutes yet more new stuff that's more admirable than likeable), ain't it.

Re: PC21 Last Round Match 3
I'm going to play Prog Police here again and disqualify B because it's just straight alternative pop. So I guess Wakeman gets my vote this time although I didn't enjoy this piece nearly as much as the one in the earlier round.

Uncle Rick vs landfill indie?
In fairness, I did like the female vocals and the post-rock style ending with horns.

Shame on me. I'm giving Rick the sympathy vote. This piece, like every other Wakeman music has far too many notes in it. It is however, a lot more memorable than the Lakes.

That's what i read it as at first too. It's a good track although the MBV comparisons are valid. It's the more interesting pick to me as i'm so familiar with the Wakeman album.

Rick wins my vote this time, with his sad puppy eyes reminding me he had a heart attack producing this sort of thing in the 70s.

As much as I love Rick , I’m also a big Besnard Lakes fan and this is an ace track, great stuff.

A_ old and stale Rick although love it.
B- new and interesting. Saw Besnard back around the time of this album. I've got the first three album and like their mix of various 80's and 90's influences.
