Again, neither of these are prog by the wildest stretch of the imagination, but they're both fun 70s relics.

A is an interesting experiment, and it's certainly played by top-flight musicians, but it's also a bit stuffy and highbrow.

B sounds like an English Folk Ballad sung in French - can't think now which one - but it's got just the right amount of electric troubadour in it for me. I'm a sucker for this stuff, I admit it.

B is weird it's like a sort of French Steeleye Span. A grooves nicely and brings a smile to my face. I like the brass flourishes and great hammond prgan playing.

wow. this just might take the award for the strangest match, mwhaha. both of these things are not at all like each other. but both short and sweet in their own weird way.

on any given day, usually, i'm goin for the more folky, around-a-campfire, olddddd school thang.

not this time. there just wasn't enough there for me to grab hold of.

meanwhile, the strangeness that is A (sitar! hammond! horns!) grew on me. the brass was all over oooooof. and i need me that organ. A has its own groooove happenin. ya ya.

Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination and Brass was enjoyable.

Simple, short and sweet.

No great shakes but adequate for a prog goon like me

Malicorne - as has already been pointed out a French Steeleye which can't be bad.

I enjoyed it. (I like a bit of folk me)

And fiddle

Yes, the French folks have my vote.

Nice. Very nice

A - not dissimilar to Colosseum or one of those late 60s progressive bands that flirted with horns and brass.

Both very enjoyable. A sounds like the theme to a 70's cop show set in the Middle East. I could go either way, but today I'll go with

Another good match. Is that Art Farmer sporting the wicked 70s sideburns in the clip? Cool.

Sad to see the Cup participants have abandoned the attention to detail which should mark appreciation of our favourite music. OF COURSE both of these are prog.

To whit: Peter Herbolzheimer's drummer has a music stand in front of him holding up actual written music. And if you look at the youtube videos for Malicorne you will see more long hair and capes than at the last 'Wakeman's fucked off again, the bastard' audition held by Yes.

I am going for the organ. A

Despite the indelible image provided by LMG and his organ I'm going for A.
B is folk. I hate folk.

Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination and Brass are new to me, which is a wrong I must right.

Malicorne are generally very good, I tend to prefer songs from their later albums - perhaps something from Le Bestiare would be garnering more votes.

A is much closer to the world of jazz than prog but the organ flourishes did give it a whiff of progginess. It's a fun, brassy and infectious little number and the sitar added an interesting element too. Enjoyed that much more than I expected.

I totally get the French Steeleye Span comparisions for B and there's nothing wrong with that, every nation should have a Steeleye Span.

A very entertaining match but I think I'm more likely to return to A

Malicorne (actually the first album originally released under the name Gabriel et Marie Yacoub) would be more my thing. The French Steeleye Span is a very accurate desription. At that point they hadn't quite found their voice yet.

Anyway, I enjoyed the German funkiness much more.
