Re: PC21- Round 5 Match 3
B went on a bit, but made some very lovely sounds in at least a couple of those minutes, and had at least some rawness to it. Suffice to say A was very much not my thing. Pretty much everything I don't like about newer prog bands in one song. Mechanical playing, overly affected vocals, overstuffed arrangements. I've heard this song before even if I haven't.

Yeah A is not doing it for me, too long and pretty tedious. Barclay James Harvest really sound like the Moody Blues here, the drumming kind of annoys me a bit on this, i prefer their later albums.

this is me, essentially. that being said, this is one of those early epic les tracks with the symphony behind em and wunnerful gweetar and mellotron goin on, it's hard to beat.
unlike y'all, though, i loved A, loved the sound and the movement. it would be a great atmo track to take on the highway, i say. (i've heard this band somewhere, i just can't recall where. it caught my ear then, too.) so A made a close run for it here.
me? i love the match-up.

Let's start with BJH - a stunning track - which I know backwards (it actually played in the car today)
oooofness in bucketfuls
Perfectly constructed - great instrumentation and awesome mellotron and guitar - a robust all round performance
Sorry A but I got a bit bored after three minutes - it neither engaged or challenged me (I like a bit of challenge me)
I appreciate it is 'good' but it is not my cup of darjeeling. Thanks for posting - my loss, I know
An easy win for the wonderful BJH

Very close. The BJH is better than anything I have heard from them, but that is not saying a lot. The intro sounds like three Floyd tracks jammed together.
A sounds very Porcupine Tree influenced. But I like it a lot.

Now B is my type of prog: atmospheric, epic in feel, not dominated by the keyboardist playing busy little sixteenth note runs all over the place.

Re: PC21- Round 5 Match 3
The busy and insistent rhythm of A is quite infectious and shuffles along nicely while the slower piano-led second half developed into a grand finish.
BJH are a band I use to like but have not aged too well for me and my interest in them has waned considerably. Having said that I did enjoy revisiting this early track with its plodding but grandiose arrangement, flowery orchestral touches and trademark John Lees guitar sound.
Good match but I'll go for the newer one A

A didn't grab me
Neither did B, but I enjoyed it more.

Re: PC21- Round 5 Match 3
North Atlantic Oscillation was a little too mannered/electronic for me - preferred the second half of the song but it was too late by then.
BJH - yes, a little old school but more than pleasant.

North Atlantic Oscillation are ok but like others I'm not really keen on the electronica vibe.

A has more layers than an onion.
B's bluesy and quite animated but I like the symphonic onion.of
