Re: PC21- Round 5 Match 2
A is from a record I have a great sentimental attachment to as I think it was one of the first records I ever owned. It's all nonsense, of course - it might as well be called the Six Hyaenas of the Brooklyn zoo - but the subject matter does at least encourage all kinds of medievalisms from Wakeman, which I love as long as I don't take it too seriously. I don't think he did.
B has some interesting twists and turns by the end, but it's a bit too mathematical for me. It doesn't have much of a sense of play, and A definitely does.

I know the Wakeman album well, probably my favourite Yes member solo album. B i had never heard of and it reminds me of Fracture by King Crimson and maybe Henry Cow. It's a bit of a jarring listen but i'll give it a vote.

i had forgotten how much i love that wakeman, it's been so very long.
B is impressive, it is. phenomenally well-played and well-done. when it gets into that longer, slower section around the 4 min mark, it's almost cinematic in its sound. the problem i have with it is... its... its... constant off-chordiness (i hope y'all know what i mean), ended up rubbin me the wrong way, almost an assault of off-chordiness, even with the heavy vibe of the slower part. i can recognize how impressive it is, even though my ears are kinda still making faces at it. er... yeah.

Six Wives is a great album and featured in my top 200 I think (?).
We are grabbed by the wotsits within 3 seconds!
ooooooof!
Anyway, a marvellous track from a very robust album. I don't need to play it today (but did!)
Onto B - once it got going it was very sprightly and quite enjoyable.
Very good musicianship and nice tubs.
There is some nice tempo and mood changes going on but the downside is that it is not very memorable.
The last minute goes nowhere and is a little tedious
Sorry, but I'll have to go with

B, I'm giving the new (to me at least) track the benefit of the doubt.

I have been listening to the Wakeman track for forty-six years and I have seen him play it live twice. And it's in/on Yessongs and that thing that has seven live sets from the same tour.
I am really not much tempted to vote for it, tho' - it would be like 'what's your favourite food?' 'Oh, um, bread'.

A - A wonderful tune from a classic solo Wakeman Album. Got to see Wakeman solo before the Virus and it was an outstanding show. He did Catherine of Aragon.
B - Present is Trigaux, was a founding member of Univers Zero, band. Brilliant Rock In Opposition.

Two very traditional prog pieces. Surprisingly I enjoyed both of them a lot. B was maybe a bit too derivative of King Crimson, but I still liked it a bit more.

Two complex, intricate pieces, immaculately played and executed but ultimately A is just a touch more tuneful and enjoyable.

A, I own and know by heart. Not very keen anymore, to be frank.
B is new to me - it's very dense and tense, but I like it a lot.
Reading up on them, I saw the Univers Zéro connection, which makes sense. And it's just a "snippet".
Will investigate further

Rick was very good.
Présent was excellent, that touch more my kind of thing. Wish it had been longer, will be following up on it.

Jeez, those staccatissimo stabs from B are superbly relentless but then it dissipates into nothing. A shame really!
Wakeman manages to cram a full suite into less than 4 minutes and that lasts the distance too.
