A is lovely but a bit precious. B is intriguing but a bit dispassionate.
I guess I prefer dispassionate to precious. At least in this case.

A is pretty and has nice guitar flute and Mellotron.
However i think B is a more interesting choice and although unfamiliar with it i enjoyed it.

I suppose the Discipline-era is where KC- fans agree to disagree whether the albums still were robust enough...I still have not really found enough reasons to play these albums regularly.
No such trouble for this nice track from El Hacko's finest.

Unusually I own both these records, but I must have played Hackett hundreds of times and KC maybe a dozen, so I didn’t even recognise B, which I enjoyed more than A this time.

A is just horrible. I like my Crimson a little more brutal and fractured but this easily wins over the nothingness of A.

Re: PC21- Round 3 Match 7
A is a gentle mood piece, the calm before the storm of A Tower Struck Down on the album, but still works out of context. Not the most obvious of picks from him but all the better for it.
I can never really make my mind up about the Discipline era of KC, I enjoy some of it but never enough to fully embrace it. Despite that I found myself enjoying this track in isolation from the album. It successfully creates musical tension but never develops it and therefore simply becomes little more than an ambient piece, but still enjoyable for all that.
Yet another close match but I'll give it to A as I like it a little more overall.

A is lovely, sweet flute, it does its little thing and drifts away. What is not to like? More like this i say!
B is ok, but sounds like it could be the soundtrack for an 80s B-grade crime thriller; in particular, that scene when the hero and heroine break into the bad guy's office at night to find the file/evidence they need.

The Hackett track is superb but the Discipline track's not (so superb).
Brother John on flute a corker of a track drenched in mellotron.
Atmospheric little guitar runs
Stunningly beautiful, achingly ethereal
Good lads.

Two beautiful tunes.
A- love the flute by bro and Hackett'S guitar work.
B- I've never had a knock on the 80's KC like others here. It's a different band but Fripp, Levin, Belew, Bruford were I sight to see in 81-82. Saw them at the amazing Alexander Hall, Princeton Univ. NJ. and again at Rutgers, NJ.
Play both these albums from time to time.
Tough call I'll stick with the new of the two tracks

Re: PC21- Round 3 Match 7
Coincidentally, when I last saw Steve Hackett play I met Crimson frontman Jakko Jakszyk on the stairs during the interval and told him how much I had enjoyed the KC 50th anniversary shows the band played at the Royal Albert Hall in the summer of that year (2019).
The recent lineups do play The Sheltering Sky, but did not at any of the three RAH shows.

Two instrumentals I own and like - I'll pick the prettier and less cerebral one today.

mwhaha. that crimson track could've easily been me. i think i've used two other tracks from discipline in cups of yore (frame by frame and matte kudasai, if i recall aright.)
i meant what i said during the vote: love both albums.
we did the hackett in a recent listen, mind, so its luvliness has been playin in my brain.
