Like these both a lot. I suppose A a little more, if only because it was new to me. But B is from an interesting transitional period for the band - the keyboards still sound very much like the John Hawken template here, even though it's mark 2.

I also didn't know that Jim McCarty had so many co-writing credits after he left - there'd be some on the next several albums.

Anyway, both go on a bit, but I'll take the one with more wonkiness.

I have no idea who Michael Bass is.I've just googled him and I am none the wiser....

Still, I can sense a Henry Cow thing going on there....

Yes - it held my attention, I found it interesting and I enjoyed it.

Renaissance...

An interesting track selection. Not my cup of tea - I found it lifeless and somewhat dreary. My loss I know.

Apologies

An easy decision for me:

there are sections (different movements?) i like in A... and other sections that make me cock a brow and say wut?

B holds together much better for me. not my fave ren, but still good and i will take it.

A sounds like the score to a great 30's era cartoon. B has a lovely melody, although it almost loses me in the long instrumental section. Still...

Neither really were that great.
A- a mix of several passages that might go together.

B - okay early tune from 2nd album. Always felt this one was sort of a lack luster piece

A is definitely interesting in parts, something that could grow on me maybe. Soundtracky in quality, unusual. B is lovely, had me singing along on this wet Easter Sunday.

Overblown circus nonsense is hugely irritating isn't it?
Despite my allergy to anything to do with, or termed Renaissance, I can only vote for B. It has the great quality of being instantly forgettable.

Renaissance rank pretty high up there in my prog hierarchy, but that Michael Bass track has something intriguing about it.

That Renaissance track gets much too bland for me liking after the promising piano intro.

You're right: my own research led to two album recorded for US RIO label Random Radar Records, which was the predecessor to Cuneiform (by the way, the full band name is Michael Bass and his Moderately Sized Orchestra and the the full song title In Case It Rains (A Few Suggestions) :ugeek: ).

I don't like all parts of this suite equally, some are too long, but the dialogue between the mallet and the baritone sax is hilarious and the Satie-like bit following it is really beautiful.

Enjoyed both, though my initial reaction to the opening of Michael Bass's piece was wondering if someone was taking the piss. After a couple of plays the humour and interplay within it drew me in.

I'm totally getting the soundtrack/circus comments for A and there are shades of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf at times but and there were some lovely passages especially 2:30 to 5:00. Probably a bit classical for my tastes overall.

I've never heard the Prologue album so this a track I've not heard before but Renaissance were always strong on melody and this stately piece is no exception.

Wow. From Peter & The Wolf to Gymnopedies to oompah. It's more impressive for its diversity than really good as a coherent piece but fun to listen to.
B has coherence but loses me quickly though...

Well the opening section of A was a total turn off for me. It did get a bit better but nah...
