A is probably my least favourite group of songs so far. Sorry. There's just nothing there I like very much.

Re: BCB Cup 2022 Round 1 Match 8
A funny thing happened on my way to dismissing A as a bunch of dull obscurities trying too hard to avoid the canon - I realized I like every single track! (OK, big exception for Dashboard Confessional, which is a big head-scratcher, and mild one for Okkervil River, whose music I wish I liked more considering what a great writer their lead singer is. But for the Grant and the surprisingly good George Michael alone, it deserves my vote.)
B is much more "BCB approved" by comparison, but I've never liked that Warhol album, the Cockney Rebel song is great but has been used before, and I find the Lilac Time, Summer, and Schulze as dull as anything on A. Blondie and Culture are good picks, in a sort of predictable way, but it's not enough.

A isn't doing anything for me, good Kate Bush aside.
Nice pick of Billy McKenzie and Skipping and State of Independence is great also.

Re: BCB Cup 2022 Round 1 Match 8
A is a bit too full of earnest over-emoting. GM gets away with it (and he does sing this beautifully), Dashboad Confidential and Okkervil River decidedly do not. I lost interest a bit after that I'm afraid.
B goes for some obvious big hitters - but when they're as good as S of I and Union City, I ain't complaining. There's some adventurous picks too though - a great Associates album track, the livewire Culture and the rather magical Schulze track. These last two were new to me and I enjoyed them a lot. The only misfire for me was the dull Reed track (it's a good idea to stay awake when recording a vocal). Third best list of the round.

I do listen to the likes of Okkervil River, Grant and Beirut, but it does make A a bit one dimensional. I was edging towards B but the final double whammy of Blondie/Associates settled it, although everyone knows the real Blondie gem is Dreaming.

Damn straight.
I'm having a bit of trouble with these ones. There are at least a couple of fine tracks in each, but there are also some that aren't really my thing. Kudos for the George Michael and the Dino Jr. picks, A, but some of your others don't really match them for beauty or excitement. Great start with the Donna, B, and that final quartet of songs is pretty strong for me too. So...

A is not up to much, but I'm not voting for anything that has even the faintest whiff of 'Cockney Rebel' about it

Re: BCB Cup 2022 Round 1 Match 8
I largely struggled with List A, there just wasn't much there I could latch on to, even the Kate Bush song is one I'm fairly lukewarm about. The Beirut track probably made the biggest impression.
List B is full of delights on the other hand. Though I favour the J&V version, Summer's State of Independence is still remarkable. Union City Blue is one of my favorite Blondie songs and I like The Lilac Time and Schulze picks too. Only The Associates misses the mark for me.

Re: BCB Cup 2022 Round 1 Match 8
I'm a bit underwhelmed by both lists, but there are three highlights in A (John Grant, Beirut and the very inspired Kate Bush pick), which the best ones in B (Sebastian, Culture, Reed/Cale) can't match. And not knowing George Michael apart from his hits, I was very pleasantly surprised by A's first pick.
So A it is.

I like a lot on A's list (Okkervil, Bush, Beirut) but love a few more on the other one.

Some decent songs on both lists but I think, on refection, B is stronger, Close though.

Re: BCB Cup 2022 Round 1 Match 8
I'm not mad about either list, but I think I'll give it to A, with the Beirut track tipping the balance.
Bugger off.
