A fine, interesting match to kick things off.
A has some very strong songs to anchor it, especially that first quartet of tunes. The Wyatt doesn't play for me, but its on spotify. I'm not a massive XTC fan but this is ok and doesn't affect my enjoyment of the list.
B is a bit more patchy for me though still good. Its high points - Sugar, Orb, BBs, Goldfrapp - are really good. The other tracks are ok, and i really didn't dislike anything here, it's just that A is a bit stronger for mine.

A is a very calculated box-checking list but I like the boxes checked, even if the Curved Air track is the only one that I love.

First link on list B doesn't work. The rest of the list is fine, but seems a bit too one-track.

A lacks any real mind-blowers - though of course I'm always happy to see Wyatt and Ayers - but it's solidly diverse and interesting all the way through.

Broken Bells is a nice pick, but B falters otherwise. Not my scene, I'm afraid.

Both have a few more failures than hits for me and ultimately neither are really for me.
I'm giving it to B because it's already losing heavily and to punish A for a shocker of an opening track.

I'm joining Moddy in bucking the trend. Lilys, which is great, aside, too many misfires on A. I love XTC but there are about 50 tracks I'd have chosen ovr that one, and I've alwys been underwhelmed by Dwight Tilley. Also the tweeness of Ayers tends to irk me. B doesn't get a free ride. The Sara Lowes is a headscracther an the Reznor is a strange choice. It really doesn't go anywhere, but Sugar, Belly and Goldfrapp see it over the line.

I find list A interesting.
Did Sting play bass in any of these bands before he was famous? The reason I ask is because we have a Curved Air track - they featured Stewart Copeland on drums of course although it doesn't sound like him on this track; and we have Kevin 'Pubic' Ayers for whom Andy Summers played guitar - although again this isn't him I don't think. But I digress, nothing here really grabs me - it's all nice enough I suppose.

Alas I am still 'looking for the magic'... Some of which at least I find in list B.

Nothing from before 1990 here? The Orb maybe :? Risky!

You can't argue with The Slim, Mould at his best and most heartbroken. And Perpetual Dawn is I think the only song ever to feature sniggering.

B for me

Overall I didn't like either list that much. I'm voting for A, the standout tracks for me were Broadcast and Coltrane/Sanders. The best track on B for me was the Goldfrapp.

I suspect a lot of this music needs some time spending on it rather than the brief listen I'm giving it all. I found myself thinking, 'Get a bloody move on!' with several of the long intros.
I've never heard any of them before and I won't be looking into any of it again, except for the Robert Wyatt track, which I really liked.
It was a close run thing but I scored each track out of 5 and list B won by one point.
Bugger off.

list A contains a handful of tracks I adore (Coltrane, Ayers and XTC) and a couple of artists that I wish I liked more than I do (Curved Air and Wyatt though I actually liked the Wyatt track more than I expected, but his vocals always irritate me). For the remaining tracks the Broadcast and Lilys songs were ok.

B starts off with a belter but I wasn't expecting too much from the rest but as it happens I enjoyed both The Ord and Trent Reznor tracks much more than I thought I would and I really liked Little Fishy. The remaining tracks I wasn't keen on,

Overall I'll give it to A but it was a much closer match than I initially expected

List A has the brilliant Coltrane track, the good Wyatt and some right dull stuff.

List B has a lot more energy and life although nothing as brilliant as AC.

B for me.

A is the equivalent of a 3rd grade bumper at Ludlow on a wet Tuesday evening in November. Soggy, heavy going underfoot and ultimately leaves you out of pocket in the investment stakes.

B is little better but like a grade 2 trial at Chester. Outwardly enticing but full of disappointment and consternation. At least it doesn't have a runner as poor as XTC, which should go straight to the knackers yard.

Despite some horrible caterwauling (and that includes XTC) I think

A

is more my thing - love the Dwight Twilley and the Alice Coltrane tracks particularly.

B as a whole just sits there

Both very poor/borderline unlistenable, although I don't know why I would expect it to be different.

B has no XTC.

A lot of new names for me which is cool. Have created a Spotify playlist to do the Cup and my studies justice.

Both lists have a track I actively dislike, (Journey in Shitndoodoo, and Perpetual Dung) but other than those there’s some okay stuff and a few likeable tracks.

I particularly enjoyed the Sugar track and have added that album to the current rotation playlist on Spotify.

I still see very little appeal in XTC, rather enjoyed Dwight Twilley, Lilys, Little Fishy (bit repetitive, could get tired quickly), Germano and Goldfrapp, didn’t see the point of Reznor and Ross at all....

Overall not a lot in it but Sugar tips the scales.
