Their minds are so open that their taste and discrimination fell out.

Taste?

Surely there's no place for 'taste' in a popular music competition.

Surely the idea that anyone here has superior taste or is more discriminating than others is a bit 20th century. Pretty well everyone here knows and loves their music but they often wildly disagree as to the merits of one given track/artist/genre. Why anyone should still believe that what they like is somehow 'good' and what they don't like is 'bad' is beyond me.

But I think there's a lot of motivated reason going on behind that attitude and you'll never persuade some people.

Seriously?

I would have thought that's a fairly typical way of looking at things. Even among the 'enlightened' :)

All music opinions are subjective.
Apart from mine which are scientifically proven to be 100% factually accurate.

I'm no good at bitter recriminations, and besides, I'm rather chuffed that so many people voted for my list which was assembled in a hurry.
Here's a couple of notes:

Same here but I can't find it on Spotify, damnit.

Did you find it in the meantime? It is there, but filed under "John Zorn"

I've had a bit of a John Zorn fling recently, especially for Book of Angels, his series of oriental-sounding tunes played by 32 different artists/bands. The Bar Kokhba Sextet one (Volume 10) with violin, cello, bass, drums, percussion and the inimitable Marc Ribot on guitar might be the most accessible and I love the whole album to bits. I'm glad the track made at least some people's ears prick up.

I discovered the Haitian folk song Dodinin recently via its cover by Leyla McCalla which might have fared better than the sparse original field recording. There's also a clip of Leyla explaing the story behind the song.

I was voted out simply because people didn't want to see Justin Hayward in a cup final list :x
