When I was at my Secondary Modern school circa 1967 our young history teacher started a darts club. I was a regular attender and threw 180 four times and treble 19s twice. The trouble is the headmaster found out and banned it because it was too 'working class' which I thought was amusing in an area where most men worked at Thames Docks, Dagenham Ford Motors or Beckton Gas Works...!
Incidentally, my grandad worked at Beckton Gas Works, the largest in Europe at the time, for 47 years, painting gasometers.
