Do we know when to use ‘Union Jack’ and when to use ‘Union Flag’

I've always known it to be the Union Jack and always called it that.
Why is it called the Union Flag, is it a bit like when you go to have an injection and they say now you'll feel a little scratch instead of what it should be, a little prick? Always have a laugh with the person injecting me about that.
How we change our language to cater for the feelings and views of the offended minority.

Many, including me, believe it is only the 'jack' when its flown from Naval Warships and shouldn't be called the Union Jack at any other time.
Therefore, all other times it the ‘Union Flag’
Even if the flag was rolled up and on a naval vessel it would still be a ‘flag’
The thing is, these days most people don’t bother and call it ‘jack’
Sacrilege!

My uncle was in the navy in submarines - I suppose the Union Jack got a bit soggy then…

When I was at school it was always called the Union Jack, never knew it was called anything else.
I did go to the same school as Nelson.

Indeed. No apostrophe in 'Jacks', there should be some punctuation after 'lad', and the following word should be 'they're'.

Horatio, my friend - mind you as the story goes he was only there for 9 days, I lasted 4 years and that was enough.
Apparently the ghost of Lady Jane Grey was meant to haunt the crypt as well, not sure why, I don’t recall her having anything to do with Norwich.
