Do we know anybody in the Florida area?
If we do, let’s wish them all safe

Re: Hurricane Milton
Milton came and went pretty quick, fortunately. I know a few people in the Tampa area. They made it to higher grounds in time, only to return to a flooded area without power. It's hard to imagine what it's like, being in one of those monsters. I've been through three now, in 18 years in Texas. Ike, Harvey and Beryl. Plus a couple of April storms that got the water from 'our' creek (Spring Creek runs virtually through our property, just abt.100 yards from the gate) running up to our doorstep. The house is on a 16' elevation! We had 3 horses drown during the floods caused by Harvey, and of course that was terrible (although I realize a wise old man was spot on when he told me, back in 2008: "never buy anything that eats while you're asleep), but on a personal level, Ike was the worst experience. First of, we had moved in only 5 weeks before it hit (the evening of Friday the 13th, mind you). We'd dealt with storms in The Netherlands and monsoon rains in Southeast Asia, but this was another category altogether. Since then, one of the first things I do in the morning between June 1st and October 31st, is check the NOAA website for disturbances. I'm rambling. I was gonna say that Helene's impact seems to have been far worse than Milton's in terms of victims, especially further inland. Lots of people in North Carolina are affected and will now vote for ouf future 47th male president.
There's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over
