GOOGA RIP
As you can see from the title, I'm afraid I have some very sad news.
I've been informed that Soren aka Googamooga passed away from cancer on May 31st.
I'm sorry to break this to you.

Re: GOOGA RIP
Zilth contacted me to let me know.
He also said this in his message. I'm sure he won't mind me posting this publicly as it's a fitting tribute that should be seen.
'I can also tell you as a friend of over thirty years he was a true gentleman, intellect and insatiable collector of popular culture. He was also very funny and a great raconteur. As you may have gathered he also had aspergers, but despite this was also very social when younger !
So yes Googa, thanks for all the all good times, nonsense, japes, and music mania shared over the years. You will be missed.'

Aw, man, I think some of us suspected as much, but didn't like to even consider the idea. I liked the guy, he didn't really fit into any one box, didn't care about trends or popular opinion, ploughed his own furrow. It's a much quieter board without him. I hope all thrift stores are flying their flags at half mast today.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Re: GOOGA RIP
Such a terrible shame. I was actually going to ask Robert or C if they'd heard from him as quite a while since any posting. Gosh, feel quite down. RIP Googs, I hope it wasn't too bad towards the end

It'll probably sound hypocritical of me after all the years of nasty comments and all the rest of it, but....I don't know, I do feel really sad about this. He was a serious music lover/collector as much as or more than any of us, it was clear how much his huge collection meant to him. And he was an interesting character and a prolific contributor. He enjoyed the banter and had a great sense of humour too. And fwiw, we'd made our peace.
RIP GoogaMooga

Re: GOOGA RIP
I, too, suspected as much.
While we fell out on occasions on social and politcal issues, our tastes in music and comics aligned in many areas outside the general tastes of the board, and as a member of a neuro-divergent family I came to recognize many of his more outre behaviours as symptoms of this.
I'm sorry that he has gone.

It's very sad news. I just hope the end wasn't too dreadful for him.
I always liked Soren. I appreciated his enthusiasm, quirky humour and warmth. He was proud to be a bit eccentric and march to the beat of his own drum.
He'll be missed.

Re: GOOGA RIP
Aww Jeez, that's really quite upsetting.
I didn't know he was ill, clearly others did (or suspected as much) - he had had other prolonged absences when regathering himself after a fall-out and had blithely assumed this was another one of those.
RIP Soren.

Re: GOOGA RIP
What sad news, I feel genuinely sad about this. I knew he was ill from one of his previous postings, in which he conveyed the impression that he only had a short while to live, but hadn't really appreciated the seriousness of his deteriorating health condition.
He is already missed on this board and I, like a few others, have been wondering where he has been lately and, as Lord Rother had presumed, I assumed that it was one of his 'absences'.
He always brought much colour to the board, in one way or another and there certainly isn't another like him here, so now and long term he will be missed, the board is a lesser place without him.
Goodbye Googa, wherever you are, hopefully you'll find more fans of the music you love to pass the time with.

Re: GOOGA RIP
Aw, man, I was just wondering yesterday if he had flounced again. I'm glad he came back after his long absence. He posted about a lot of stuff I didn't have much interest in, but he did keep this board active when so many longtime posters were MIA or inactive, and our tastes did often align.
