Sorry to hear that news Charlie. I hope it isn’t as grim as it sounds. Did they do more than one test on your Dad to be sure it isn’t a false positive? I don’t know what the odds are or whether that is part of the protocol but hope there is good or less gruesome news in that scenario.

So sorry to hear about your father, Charlie. Here's hoping he and your brother are OK. And that you take care of yourself in the meantime.

Still no symptoms - likewise with brother and sister-in-law. Fingers continue to be crossed. Thanks for asking.

I don't know if this happened in your neighbourhoods (I imagine it did) but in Austin the first serious lockdown prompted a spate of pavement chalk drawings and messages of optimism, ostensibly by children. I found these initially very sweet and quite moving - a walk would be punctuated by bunches of chalk flowers with the words "don't worry" and "we are all in this together" and that sort of thing. Several months on, I have no idea who is still doing this but the messages no longer seem to relate to anything pandemic related and instead say things like "BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE" and all that kind of gushing motivational thinking bollocks. In a similar vein, some woodland walks suddenly have rocks with paintings on declaring messages of hope and a current fad is to add shiny fake jewels to painted small rocks and leave them in the woods as "treasure" which have the birds going crazy trying to swallow what look like great berries and WHAT HAPPENED TO LEAVE NO TRACE?

On one of my favourite walks, I have been smiling for weeks at a bright pink message on a rock: "Faith Over Fear"- I've thought, that's nice! Someone is saying, "don't be frightened, have courage" and that's a reasonable thing to say to your fellow man. I've since learnt what the dog whistle "Faith Over Fear" actually means and who it is meant to appeal to and so I've tossed that fucking rock to the back of the wood and done my back in in the process. Bah, humbug!

Youngest has tested positive. Lady Rother (diabetic) has mild symptoms so took her for a test this afternoon.

And the fridge is empty....

(Next online slot available is 10th January by which time even the old tins at the back of the cupboard would have gone, but one of my son’s mates is going to shops for us tomorrow which is good of him.)

Thanks - early days but seems to be mild at the moment. No guarantee I know...

Like everyone else in this situation I suppose, we have worked out our internal regime so hopefully won’t make it worse by spreading it around the rest of the house. Bit chilly with the windows open!
