BCB vs Facebook
I am not big on Facebook. It has its uses I'm sure. Maybe I am doing something wrong. I find a treacly wholesomeness there and it doesn't suit my need to be the swinish person I have come to love and laugh with. The other day my cousin posted a photo of a workshop he'd built by himself in his backyard. He asked his "friends" to help him name it. "Center of Creation" was topping the list. My inclination was to refer to it as a good place to jerk off and call it Wackenhutt. But you know, on Facebook, if you don't have something clean to say stifle yourself. Can you call someone a cunt on FB?

Re: BCB vs Facebook
Anyway....
Facebook: photos of old brutalist architecture, the funniest Jim'll Paint It sketch for a long time, the latest additions to Django's collection (his kids holding up the postcards - it's really sweet), some lunacy from Viz, the BBC page asking 'Can propaganda be great art?', lots of 60s garage from a couple of pages I'm following, my Mam raving about Quartet which she saw last night (she never watches films!) - and I'm still arguing about this strange Fall-tribute band fronted by Brix
BCB: four pages on a new Yes live CD (not as good as Yessongs, apparently) and an 'RIP' for someone you've never heard of. Again

Facebook: lots of tits talking about their cats, kids and gawdah.
BCB: fewer tits talking about their cats, gardens and gawdelpus. And Me

So. Facebook. Some old photos, puerile 'humour', some photos of someone else's kids, an obvious question no doubt debated to death with no real conclusion, a majority of tuneless drivel, your mother and people giving a shit about a TRIBUTE band. Fuck me where do I sign up?
BCB. Unlistenable turgid endless noodling with the lyrics of a hormone ravaged 13 year old boy, obituaries of the obscure, fucking gardening, pointless discussion on fantasy 'beings' and cats. I resign!

Re: BCB vs Facebook
I had two really good music conversations on Facebook yesterday, one with Slider, Steve (forget his BCB name (fireplug?, but Quaco just visited in Barcelona) and me about guitarists and their signature guitars and people from my hometown about bands and musicians whose members lived and/or grew up there - Doobie Bros, Santana, Moby Grape, John Lee Hooker - than I've had on here in a long time.
Some stuff on here I'd never post on Facebook, like about my dad and music, but there's hometown/regional stuff no one on here would ever relate to that I write and discuss on Facebook.

An intra-BCB page is one thing but on my page with aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters, friends of cousins, friends of friends of cousins, my god, too many straight people. Can't talk sex nor drugs nor rock and roll. Fucking useless.

yikes!
The Center of Creation? Does he live in Woodstock? Jimbo, this is screaming to be lampooned. Wackenhaut, tell 'em its Yiddish.
It's kinda depressing for a music forum to be proud of not knowing musicians.

They're two different beasts and don't really compare. I'm on FB a whole lot more than here, though.

Re: BCB vs Facebook
I like to play the big room.
I have a lot of clever friends on Facebook that aren't here. But I have a lot of unclever people on there too who chime in with inanities and try like hell to keep up with what I'm doing no matter how little clue they have as to what it is. Still, a lot of people there get me.
The good thing about this place is that pretty much everyone is clever.

{Edit] Ten minutes later, the crickets are still chirping here. That's one big difference.

I get a lot more out of Facebook these days. It's just funnier, more entertaining and you don't have to endure the posts of those BCBers you don't like.

Re: BCB vs Facebook
If your BCB experience is shit it is because it is full of people you don't like.
If your Facebook experience is shit it's your own fucking fault for adding cretins.
I quite like dipping in here but Facebook is my home.
