Re: Jack the Cat - your prayers/well-wishes are appreciated!
This is the saddest of sad news.
All you can do is to give Jack lots of affection and comfort in his last days, to make him feel loved. It's tough, and I know you guys will do right by him. I've been through this a few times with beloved companions, and it never gets any easier.
Lots of love from me, Debi and Sonny.

You'd pay big bucks to know what you really think.

Dave and Caro, I'm sorry to hear about Jack. However, take comfort from knowing that he's had a fun, good life with people that care about him.

Re: Jack the Cat - your prayers/well-wishes are appreciated!
When we posted last here we had just been told Jack was probably not going to get any better, and that at best he probably had a few months left. Well, we're about a week away from it being three months, and while he's certainly not strong, and is definitely skinnier and weaker than he was then, he's still around and pretty active and fairly comfortable most of the time. I can only imagine it's because he's incredibly tough and resilient. At this point every day with him is a gift. Everyone's told us that we'll know when he's ready to check out. Happily, that time still hasn't come.
Keep the good thoughts coming. All the love coming his way is much appreciated. I am absolutely in awe of how well he's handled this whole thing, but I always have been in awe of him. He's a very special cat.

Great news Dave! I'm sure all that love flying around that household is helping a lot. He's a lucky cat to have you and C as owners.

Great news Dave. Don't know what I'd do without our two, so I know how you feel. More power to Jack!

That's very good news.
Cuddle him all you can now that you still can.
Not wanting to rain on your parade here but I still miss Ginger every day.
Last Sunday I drove past a house down the street and saw two cats sitting in the window.
One was an orange tabby.
About a mile down the road I turned the car around, stopped and walked up to the house.
Just to make sure it wasn't him.
Sad, I know.

Ah Yves. I saw your name on this thread and it made me wonder about Ginger. I am so sorry that he never came back. I know your heart is broken.

Re: Jack the Cat - your prayers/well-wishes are appreciated!
Well, it's now officially Jack's 12th birthday.
I think those of you who've read and contributed to this thread probably already have some sense of just how much I adore this cat. From the day he showed so much personality at the adoption, basically demanding to come home with me and making himself right at home once I obeyed, to the many times he's moved to new places with me and adjusted immediately to the many people he's met and been friendly and social with, I've always known he was an extraordinary cat.
When he was first given his diagnosis, late last year, we had high hopes, but those hopes were quickly put to the test when the chemo didn't take. When he was last at the vet he looked absolutely miserable, weak and wobbly. The vet said that, optimistically, he might have 3 months left. Well, we're going on six at this point and, while he certainly doesn't seem to be getting stronger, he's alive. Gloriously, wonderfully alive. I think the reason for this is his incredible strength, resilience, and overall will to live. He may not have much time left, but we honestly weren't too optimistic about him still being around at this point. Cliche though it may be, every day is a gift at this point.
Thank you all for the good thoughts coming his way. I suspect in some instinctive way he knows how much he is loved, and that it's helped. Keep 'em coming. Here's hoping he continues to be relatively comfortable, and have more time with us than we expected.
