Never saw it but recently read the book again, which I originally read around the time the movie came out when I was about 12.

This is one of the best series on a major tv network in some time. Hillary Swank plays a former star New York investigative reporter exiled to an Alaskan paper after a career downturn. She and the staff search for the truth to the murder of a native woman, from the remote fishing villages to the halls of local government and law enforcement. First season just wrapped up. Hope there is a second.

'A Good Person' (2023, theatrical release)



A young woman (Florence Pugh) is the driver in a terrible auto accident which takes the life of her fiance's sister and the sister's husband. A year later she is addicted to opiods which she had started on for pain, and estranged from her now former finance. The father of the fiance (Morgan Freeman)who blames Pugh's character for the accident is now raising his dead daughter's angry and sexually precocious teenaged girl, while trying to reconcile with the former fiance whom he had abused as a violent alcoholic in his younger days. Pugh's and Freeman's characters find themselves at the same support meeting for addicts, beginning a complex association which eventually draws in the teenaged girl and former fiance. This is not a simple, or lighthearted story of healing or broken people comforting each other. Pugh's character struggles with her addiction and frequently relapses. The anger Freeman's character feels toward the woman whom he feels killed his daughter is not lightly put aside. This movie depicts a somber journey of people pulling themselves from a pit of despair, anger and addiction, only occasionally tempered with some light comedic moments.

Watched 'World's End' yesterday. Some good bits for sure but not quite up to the previous two in the trilogy's standards

For Nicola Walker fans and featuring Paul McGann (I from Withnail and I,) don't miss the droll and dry Annika on BBC1. Originally Norwegian and fiercely proud of her Viking heritage she's now risen within Police Scotland to head up the Marine Homicide Unit, teenage daughter in tow. Hear about the Valkyries and Captain Ahab as well as the ongoing murder cases. Did you know they eat salted liquorice in Norway as a sweet treat ?



Series 2 is in the making.

Watched the first one, pretty tame I thought but it was entertaining. I’ve had salted licorice, tastes a little odd but it’s okay.

We watched the first one on Alibi last year and didn't watch any more. Nicola played herself .....again......monotone, boring, and the story was uninspiring. BBC, is that the best you can do? As for salted liquorice, this is a man who would quite happily flush a box of liquorice all sorts down the toilet. Horrible stuff.

I knew I’d spelt liquorice incorrectly.

Don’t like liquorice, good grief I love the stuff, especially the really nice packets you get from Lakeland, although I can’t remember the last time I actually had any, don’t eat sweets at all really.

To be honest I was being kind in my appraisal of NW and the programme. At least she’s not as twitchy as she normally is, drives me up the wall with all that ‘emotional’ twitching. It must be pretty bad because my wife who likes NW doesn’t even want to watch another episode.
