It was completely new to me, even though I've had a copy of it on DVD for years. Anyway it's fucking magnificent. The whole cast if fantastic, but Bette Davis is phenomenal.

Yeah, I think I said this on this very thread some years ago, but that performance is about as good as any American actress gave in the 1950s.

I just saw last night's episode of Bull .. the timing of this episode is scary.

https://tvline.com/2020/03/16/bull-city ... pisode-17/

Bull Episode About a Citywide Bacteria Scare Comes With Viewer Warning

Before the 17th episode of Bull Season 4 got underway on Monday night, series lead Michael Weatherly stepped on screen to deliver a viewer advisory.

“Tonight’s episode deals with a citywide panic, not unlike the fears and concerns people are experiencing all over the world at this moment,” Weatherly said, alluding to the coronavirus outbreak. “Before we start, we wanted to remind you this is a work of fiction. It was written and filmed months ago. And its only purpose is to entertain you.”
If love could've saved you, you would've lived forever.

The formidable John Ford directs Gideon Of Scotland Yard (1958).
It's hard not to watch it and think how The Pythons may have cherry-picked from it here and there for Fawlty Towers :)

The Pythons didn't "make" Fawlty Towers. It was written by John Cleese and his then wife Connie Booth.

They'll Love Me When I'm Dead. Documentary of sorts about Orson Welles trying to finish his film, The Other Side of The Wind. Magnificent from start to finish.

Absolutely terrific Good Friday watching. What a pleasure that Schrader still has the piss and vinegar to devise this kind of movie, and still finds the resources to make it.

And Alan Hansen still looks hot as hell!

Magnificent.

I felt Bujold handled the proceedings leading up to her dramatic demise marginally better than Foy in Wolf Hall but both productions are remarkable depictions.

We watched "Being There" last night, which I hadn't seen for about 40 years. What a film.I had completely forgotten about the ending - and also the bedroom scene with Sellers and Rand's wife. Pitch perfect, gentle and so beautifully observed.

The Spy Who Came In from the Cold (1965)

It was the first time I'd ever watched this and every minute is taut. Burton was superb, needless to say.

I've been watching a lot of comedy on Netflix - and am surprised to find how funny I find Jim Gaffigan.
Last night I found a new sketch show by Iliza Shlesinger, who is funny as all fuck. I recommend her.
We've been doing quite a lot of Criterion watching and saw a fabulous short about Barbara Hammer called "Audience" the other day - like so many of the other short films on there, it's an absolute time capsule and a complete joy.
I had also forgotten how wonderful "Benidorm" is and we've been watching that - Sheila Reid is outstanding.

I heartily concur with the two Burton recommendations. Yet neither are as good as Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Midsommar is not "an era-defining masterpiece,"* in my opinion, but it was pretty effective, and fun to watch.

*per the blurb on the cover of a different edition of the home video

Yeah, I watched that last night. Not sure what to say really - it’s basically a way sexier Wicker Man isn’t it? But absolutely beautiful to behold- I mean absolutely gorgeous. Some great, tempered performances too considering- I don’t know that I would either watch it again or recommend it to anyone but it is certainly fascinating!

New Jumanji installment
most of Season 1 of Party Down
The In-Laws
Uncut Gems
