Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light

Postby Samoan » 10 Nov 2024, 12:15

Wolf Hall Series 2 - Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light - starts on BBC1 this evening and by all accounts it promises to be a feast for the senses.

Episode 1: Wreckage

The Mirror and the Light opens in the heartbeat after Anne Boleyn's death, as the young queen's blood is sluiced from the scaffold and Thomas Cromwell picks his way across the wreckage to take up his position as principal councillor to an unpredictable king. Despite his lowly beginnings in a Putney blacksmith's forge, Cromwell has made a reputation for himself as one of England's most formidable politicians.

Nonsense to the aggressiveness, I've seen more aggression on the my little pony message board......I mean I was told.

It's a fascinating time in English history.
Whatever people think of period costume dramas, the organised and disorganised world religions and the monarchies (- I've only got time for Middleton for her private, early morning visit to the site of Sarah Everard's vigil in South London 2021-), I'd recommend the series thus far for it's glowing cinematography, filmed by candlelight in parts like the first Wolf Hall in 2015.

The final instalment of Hilary Mantel’s masterpiece is the most intricate television you are ever likely to see. It is so beautifully made it’s breath taking.

Damian Lewis is really stepping into the Henry VIII that was all know.
I was hoping the BBC would put all the episodes online at once. Guess I'll have to wait.
