House of the Dragon season 2

Postby pcqgod » 13 Jul 2024, 22:55

The Dance of the Dragons has truly commenced, especially with the shocking events of episode 4. Meanwhile Daemon is off on his own sulking and trying to prove his worth after the fallout of the "Blood and Cheese" disaster of episode 1. It's clear that a dark turn is being set up for this character, especially after the introduction of the mysterious Alys Rivers. Seeds of doubt has been placed in Alicent's mind about the righteousness of the Green cause. Criston Cole and Aemond ascend in power and we have to see how Rhaenyra responds to the new escalations in the war.

"House of the Dragon," in classic GoT fashion can seem to move at a glacial pace until shocking and near-apocalyptic events rock the status quo. This season the writers seem to be adding quite a bit more original material to the source GRRM story (which is written in a fairly terse, historical account style) fleshing out the motivations of the characters and adding more intrigue. There are still no fun characters like Bronn or Tyrion and the series is still not as varied in its global settings, though this may be changing with the expansion of the war into different corners of the Seven Kingdoms. Matt Smith as the conflicted Daemon is the series MVP currently, with the loss of Paddy Considine in season 1, though the actors playing the younger Targaryens, especially Ewan Mitchell (Aemond) and Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II) are beginning to shine in their respective roles. Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy (Alicent and Rhaenyra) remain excellent as the respective matriarchs of their factions while Phia Saban as Queen Helaena seems poised to become a fan-favorite character before long.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Finally got some fun characters at the tail-end of Season 2. Look forward to more of Ulf and Admiral Lohar in s. 3.

Finished it yesterday and although it picked up a little from the first season I still found it rather disappointing and nothing very much has happened - we're still where we were at the end of the first season. I shall continue to watch though when season 3 appears, just to see if something interesting happens.
