Yesterday I re-watched the DVD of this tragic family film, in which the late Donald Sutherland RIP plays the father and for which the young Timothy Hutton won an Oscar as the youngest of two sons but It's Mary Tyler Moore who really stands out (playing totally against type) as the Ice Queen mother, desperately trying to impress on her social circle what a happy, normal family they are when nothing could be further from the truth.
