Reacher [Prime TV]

Postby C » 06 Feb 2022, 16:57

Reacher - released on Amazon Prime Video on February 4, 2022 [UK]

Great stuff

I enjoy the Ian Lee Child books too (well most of them) - read well over 20.

I like it when the baddies get their comeuppance

Amusing too

This bloke is more like I imagine from picturing an image from the books.

In the two films, Tom Cruise is not taller or muscular enough and he hasn't quite got the 'mean streak'.

Alan Ritchson certainly fits the bill on that front.

He can be a bit of a Schwarzenegger automaton but that's ok. He is likeable and kind but also bad ass/arse when he needs to

A great female lead too and the 'non-swearing' Harvard educated detective in the tweed suit - Finlay

Well worth watching - great fun!

Eight 45 minute episodes

Lee Child.

Was just looking for something new to watch.

You’ve sold me (having also read most of the books). Not exactly literature but always entertaining.

It is really good!

Amusing one liners in true Reacher style

Enjoy

I am half way through episode 7

Watched the first episode last night.

It's a bit like an old-school 70"s American TV drama.

Stranger walks into a quiet town somewhere in mid-America > Murder/crime occurs > He gets accused > Local cops are at odds with him but eventually take orders from him > A few twists and turns > Crime solved > The end.

Don't spoil if for me.

Yeah, great isn't it?

Incidentally, if you like the Ian Lee Child Reacher books I would recommend David Baldacci. He has about four or five main characters each with their own collection of books. One of the 'themes' is a Reacher character [John Puller]. Another a group of 'oddball' old boys doing their bit to foil the baddies [Camel Club] and just one more for luck Will Robie who is a highly skilled U.S. government assassin.

There are others

I read some of the Reacher books. Good stuff for traveling. Would like to watch this. Is it on Netflix?

I read a couple of Baldacci 10+ years ago and didn't like them at all.

Just thought they were really poorly written. Don't know why I took against him so as I'm a sucker for a fast-paced thriller and very rarely come away from a book with a bad review.

(Again, it's Lee Child.) :D

I am a big fan of author Michael Connelly and have read all of his books up to about 3 years ago - haven’t read much at all recently.

I knew there was a series being made based on the Bosch novels but had forgotten about it and never tracked it down.

Having now “discovered” the excellence of the Amazon Prime stuff via Reacher, I have binge watched (something I’ve never done before) the 1st 2 series and I have to say it is superb.

The acting, the pacing, the locations, all marvellous.

It’s not so much an action series as proper police procedural stuff and internal politics in the LAPD which is something I enjoy about the books so am very pleased that it has maintained the author’s vision.

Baldacci is great, fast paced page turner's. I'm not keen on his latest character set in the 50's, Archer.

Linwood Barclay is good but Jonathan Kellerman is probably my favourite thriller writer. 37 books into his Alex Delaware books and still consistently great.

I gave up on it.
Started watching Treadstone. Similar in some ways and I lasted a bit longer with it.

I finished watching Reacher recently and enjoyed it. Good pacing in the episodes most of the time, good production style and locations, and the main actors are well cast - i much prefer seeing a man of Ritchson's size playing Reacher than bloody Tom Cruise. Every time i see a scene of Cruise in that role, i can't help but image him standing/walking on boxes, or his co-star walking in a ditch to make him look bigger on screen.

I liked Cruise as Reacher. I struggle in the books when the "bad guys" look at Reacher/Brick Shithouse and think bring it on.
