BCB 100 - Pink Floyd

I can't really see this band as having a great deal of value outside of sixteen year old males and potheads. I don't see the majesty of Piper At The Gates of Dawn, and only a few tracks on it seem even interesting to me. And the seventies stuff smacks of willfull self-parody. I offer these opinions up for scorn and disbelief, secure in the knowledge that I'm right.

Favorite Album - The Wall (even though it's frequently unlistenable, it has a handfull of songs that are engaging, a couple that are even affecting)

Favorite Song - "Lucifer Sam" (too few like that in their catalog)

I think I quite like them but I never actually listen to them so I wouldn't really know. They could write a decent song but they're pretty dull and wanky for the most part and, let's face it, they used a children's choir.
Song Wish You Were Here, I guess that can be the album too.

I think there is so much to chose from with regards to Pink Floyd and then of course there are the various eras of the band. I do doubt there would be too many votes for Latter day Floyd led by Gilmour although in my opinion that would be a shame as I think that both Momentary Lapse and Division Bell have their moments.
For me it will always be classic era Floyd from the early to mid seventies and as such that is where my choices have come from

Agreed!

I don't think any other band (maybe REM) elicit such extreme reactions from me. Most of their '70s output is yawnsome to the max. Absolute cack. Yet their early singles were as good as UK psych got. Fantastic stuff.

Actually, for song, I'd go for any of those early singles. When are they going to get released? 'Scream Thy Last Scream' needs to be heard by everybody!

Roger Waters is a self-righteous, pretentious, annoying twit. Although to be fair, his melodies match his lyrics perfectly. They both whine. Their best songwriter ever is of course Syd. Rick Wright comes in second.

I know it sounds crazy, but I've only heard Dark Side Of The Moon once in its entirety, and that was in 1985, when, during one of The Balancing Act's tours, our soundman put it in the cassette player in our van. Sounded nice, but not memorable enough for me to investigate further. I saw The Wall movie and found it and much of the music utterly dull. I love Piper, though, and Syd was great - sorry he's gone.

It would be more accurate to say they are the Pink Floyd of modern bands. Except Radiohead are neither as good nor as bad as Pink Floyd.

My old equation used to go something like:

Pink Floyd + U2 / Warpish gurgles = Radiohead.

But now I like them.

Nope - It has nothing to do about how good they are or aren't - but they seem to get looked down upon around here for some reason - presumably because Waters was a twat and they went on for too long.

i love "careful with that axe eugene"from the album "ummagumma".the hi hat and snare in the intro sets the languid stage for the latter sonic assault.i care not wether the pink floyd are "cool" or not,i like the song.
