I don't mind the Talking Heads now and again, but I can't imagine choosing to put on one of their records.

I loved 'em from their inception, and now find 'em a little dated, and grow weary of David Byrne's yelping and dlitettantism. However, with songs like 'Heaven,' 'Born Under Punches,' 'The Big Country,' 'Life During Wartime,' and especially 'Once In A Lifetime,' not only did Talking Heads have songwriting ability, their stuff sounded absolutely refreshing on FM radio at the time. Also, 'Take Me To The River' remains one of the finest cover versions of all time - talk about taking a great song and making it your own!

The world is not worse for having nice, quirky little bands in it from time to time. And Talking Heads were a nice, quirky little band who were great on occasion. In addition, I was at the show in which the main body of the Stop Making Sense movie was filmed, and it was a bonafide great concert.

I don't think they've dated, I just think most of the people who started singing their praises with 'Remain in Light' moved on to other stuff just around the time they broke up.

I like 'Remain in Light', I LOVE the first three.

A brilliant soul song with all traces of soul removed, and replaced by detached irony. What exactly is the appeal?

hey, which cover came first Bryan Ferry or Talking Heads?
probably T.Heads. I always like Ferry's better. It's just as caucasian but does seem to have more sex in it.

I like that record quite a bit.
T.Heads version is a little bloodless compared to Ferry or Al but I like it, it fits on the record and was an unexpected friend on the radio.

And this coming from someone who, for years, preferred the Hall and Oates version of 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling' to the Righteous Brothers' version? :roll: :D

True, but I saw the error of my ways. And Hall & Oates are still a million times more soulful than David Nerd...I mean Byrne.

life during wartime was done so much better live. it's strange cos it's done virtually the same as the studio version, but i think the fact that they can't fade out mid verse is a bonus...

burning down the house, this must be the place, heaven, don't worry about the government, psycho killer, no compassion... the list of sheer brilliiance goes on and on...

but the winner (for me) would have to be

Memories can't wait

it's stupendous. it's also the name of my best of Talking Heads sampler (I don't like corporate best ofs, much prefer to make my own.)
everybody hates a tourist, especially one who thinks it's all such a laugh, and the chip-stains and grease will come out in the bath

Couldnt they have released the video material as a separate DVD? Im no audiophile or completist, Ill stick with my Talking Heads vinyls.
