I bet that one doesn't get any seconders.

Well... I do love it because there's so much happening in such a short time.

Album: Selling England (this week); Lamb (next week); Trick Of The Tail (when I'm feeling brave)

Track: 'Carpet Crawlers', wrestled from 'I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)', 'Firth Of Fifth', 'The Cinema Show' and as corny as this sounds 'Follow You Follow Me' and 'Turn It On Again'...... and 'Ripples' .... and 'Entangled' .... I fucking love Genesis!!!!

Calling All Stations is obviously the best thing they ever did.
Track? And Jesus He Knows Me for the sheer joyous humility.

Ah, the first "real" (do I mean Rael?) band I got into.
I unconditionally love everything up to "And Then There Were Three", and some of what followed, but they changed, man..........
I still play Selling England and The Lamb much more than I do the later stuff, so maybe Im appreciating those days all over again.
They were capable of moments of incredible beauty, especially instrumentally.
"Hairless Heart" is stunning, and there are lots of moments like that on The Lamb.My kneejerk response is always that "Selling England" is my favourite studio work, but The Lamb comes very close, and thats before I even factor in "Foxtrot".
Favourite track;
Carpet Crawlers,Dawn( from Trespass), Counting Out Time,Suppers Ready,Firth of Fifth, Mad Man Moon,I Know What I Like(esp live)
Nah, its The Cinema Show, from Seconds Out
Album;Seconds Out, with hon mentions for Selling England, and the live Lamb on the boxset.

Wrong time of day, it's Dusk.

Album: A Trick Of The Tail. I think I'm possibly the only one to choose a non Gabriel album. Second favourite would be Selling England.

Track: One from each album:
In The Wilderness
Stagnation
Musical Box
Supper's Ready
Firth of Fifth
The Carpet Crawlers
Entangled
Blood on the Rooftops
Down and Out
Duke's Travels
Abacab
Mama
N/A
N/A
One Man's Fool

Do The Neurotic and On The Shoreline would be my favourite tracks from Invisble Touch and We Can't Dance respectively if they hadn't been left off the album.

I think the thing I like most about early Genesis is the absurdist humour interwoven into the lyrics. I find them to be very Pythonesque in places.

Album: Foxtrot. As good as the others of this era are, this record has the best pacing of any of them, each piece having its place, with a beginning, middle and end.

Song: "Supper's Ready". Does what the whole of Lamb attempted in less time (although I love Lamb too).

______________

Runners Up - "Cinema Show", "In The Cage"

Favourite Collins-era tune- "Turn It On Again".

I have a Genesis demo single from 1968, Silent Sun. Produced by that
star of porridge Johnathan King. Not a very good song, but it may pay
for a day out doing "Spot the pigeon" in years to come.

I know what i like.
