Ah, the first "real" (do I mean Rael?) band I got into.
I unconditionally love everything up to "And Then There Were Three", and some of what followed, but they changed, man..........
I still play Selling England and The Lamb much more than I do the later stuff, so maybe Im appreciating those days all over again.
They were capable of moments of incredible beauty, especially instrumentally.
"Hairless Heart" is stunning, and there are lots of moments like that on The Lamb.My kneejerk response is always that "Selling England" is my favourite studio work, but The Lamb comes very close, and thats before I even factor in "Foxtrot".

I think the thing I like most about early Genesis is the absurdist humour interwoven into the lyrics. I find them to be very Pythonesque in places.

Album: Foxtrot. As good as the others of this era are, this record has the best pacing of any of them, each piece having its place, with a beginning, middle and end.

Song: "Supper's Ready". Does what the whole of Lamb attempted in less time (although I love Lamb too).

star of porridge Johnathan King. Not a very good song, but it may pay
