Album: Diamond Dogs. It just has an ineluctible magic that I can't find anywhere elese. I know that "Ziggy" and "Aladdin" are more polished, but this is more of an adventure of a record.

Song: Suffragette City. But only because I heard it on the radio tonight and found it so damn exciting. "TVC15" is another strong candidate, though.

TVC15 is a great song.
But it would be 5 times better if he had upped the tempo by about 20 bpm. It drags its arse.

So... is it Bowie like bow-tie or Bowie like bow-wow?

Song - The Bewlay Brothers. Ditto. It's where he confesses the whole game.

That album features some horrible warbling and his most annoying nonsense lyrics. And you've highlighted one of the worst songs there.

Ah, nice to hear from you again, John! I figured you were ignoring me these days.

I hope you don't think The Bewlay Brothers has nonsense lyrics, because if you do, you're not really listening.

So you mean to tell me that 'lay me place and bake me pie I'm starving for me gravy' isn't nonsense?

Go back to the record and reconsider!

I think "Bowie" (as in "bow-tie) sounds cooler. There is the school of thought which submits Boo-ee as a possible pronounciation as well. I guess he should have stuck to Jones. It serves me well enough.

Could do this ten times & get ten different answers.

In fact, we probably have done.

Today? Ooh, I dunno.

Album: Outside.
Track: I'm deranged.

I'd say the first essential Bowie album is 'Hunky Dory'.

Who's with me?

I don't like Hunky Dory. Some of it is great but it also has some right toss on it. The Man Who Sold the World is a great album, with some of his best writing, and probably the first essential one.
I've not heard any of the ones before that but I don't think they're generally held in that high regard.

I believe you Brits have a wonderful word I'd like to use in response...
bollocks!
he knows when to hold 'em / he knows when to fold 'em.
I think the strangled seal bit is the highlight of the track!!

album: I'm taking Heroes just because I recently said it was my favorite. I've been toying with consistency, I'll let you know how it goes.

song:
win: the voyeur of utter destruction as beauty
(wow! it really is!)
place: Time
show: God Knows I'm Good

Album: The Man Who Sold The World.
Song: "Heroes".

Good man.

I don't know why 'Hunky Dory' continues to attract such across-the-board fanaticism, 'cos there really is some horrible crap there.

'The Man Who Sold The World' works beautifully in this heavy idiom - the only time he really used it - and there's a unity of style that makes it a great listening experience. The title track is crap, tho'. And it's a shame, 'cos when you mention the album to people who don't know it, of course they think of the Nirvana cover.

'The Bewlay Brothers' and 'Quicksand' are both bloody awful. And 'Andy Warhol' is shrill and difficult, if you're not in the mood. 'Song For Bob Dylan' has those horrible sections where he goes 'here she goes', or whatever. Difficult to like.

It's a drippy album in places. The albums either side are stronger in every sense.

Interesting.

I think it's perfect but I just wondered.
