BCB 100 - Scott Walker

Postby geoffcowgill » 21 Jun 2006, 15:52

I've just got Scott 3. Don't see quite what the fuss is about, but it's at least interesting in theory. The one song that really stands out on that for me is "Rosemary".

There's only one problem with Scott Walker, and that is that 99% of his material is complete shit.

Good thread for helping us identify the narrow minded rockists, cheers Geoff.

I only have Scott 4, Tilt and The Drift. I'd be lying if I said I preferred either of the latter two to Scott 4, however interesting they may be. Not sure I have a favourite song, probably On Your Own Again.
I guess I should get Scott 3 though.

the thing with scott 3 is the first four songs are really a songcycle kind of thing, soo that make my choice four songs..is that allowed...pretty amazing stuff anyway.

was having a talk with a colleague and we were trying to work out the real heir to scott.....The Devine Comedy were bandied about but i cant quite belive that, true theres lots of his influence detectable all over the place, but one true heir???

Even I'm struggling with The Drift. It really is Tilt wothout the tunes isn't it ? I can handle Tilt in small doses and actually like Climate of Hunter. Still it really comes down to the first four.

Album: Scott 3
Track(s): Big Louise, Copenhagen

Even accepting the premise that people have different tastes. This is the most ridiculous statement i have ever read on a music board. I shall look at you in a different light mr Coan.

I'll accept Scott 4 is a fine album. Like I said, there are two amazing songs there. And the rest really is rather good. But I can't get with his other output. There's no root melody to much of it, and they dress it up with all manner of expensive shit - harps and horns and that - but it's all so meandering and boring. I'm longing for a great swoop of accessible tune in the vocal, or something - never comes. Lots of talent there, but too much dancing around and avoiding aspects that make all the great pop so loveable.
