I braved the heatwave and went out scouring charity shops for CDs and films.

Fond this little gem, which astonished me:

Image

For this is the very same CD we were meant to be playing at the PSL on Friday, except it is not on Spotify, and in any case was postponed due to low numbers. It is a rarish CD, and I have never seen Budgie in a charity shop.

Odd, eh? Eerie? Well, different interpretations are of course applicable.

LMG: 'This shows how all-pervading the influence of the Prog Illuminati is becoming. At present, in the early stages of being able to alter the fabric of space-time, in order to put a treasured copy of a Budgie CD I do not have in my hands. Soon enough, however: the Sphynx and the Taj Mahal in Hyde Park, the backdrop to the 1969 line up of King Crimson and the Rolling Stones for a free concert announcing the 1000-year reign of the Prog Illuminati'.

Sceptical friend from work I've known for decades: 'Think about all the times it HASN'T happened. How many PSLs have there been? And how many times has the album turned up a within a few days either side? It's no big deal, mathematically'.

A Chorus of ex-girlfriends: 'You go out every day and buy up all the world's unwanted CDs. No great shock, then, is it really that one of them happens to be on the list of that weird internet listening thing you do with your equally saddo mates'.

I'm sticking with my interpretation, obviously.

The Small Faces’ second album proper and their first with Immediate, where they had licence to experiment and roam musically. Better than the first, better than Ogden’s though? Possibly.

Got the original vinyl of this but the 3CD set was produced at a much later date with more tracks on it.

Original on vinyl? Mmmm, I'm impressed. I've got just got the cd's, I'm afraid. Cracking sampler with some edgy tracks

For a while I quite liked Aerosmith, thought it was a great name for a band as well.

This was the first album I bought of theirs on CD but it always sounded quite harsh and became fatiguing after a while. Found the vinyl going cheap some years ago and it sounds much better than the CD. Really good album, worth it for Love in an Elevator or should that be lift?

In the UK, the song went..."Love in a life," Love in a lift..."

Wasn't quite the same though.

Pump is the best of the '80s albums, but still pales before the first four LPs.

It's good enough as a rock album C. but essential? I don't think so.

Essential to me would be albums like Forever Changes, Exile, Notorious Byrd Brothers, Revolver, Crimson King, Yes Album and countless others but this for me doesn't come anywhere near that 'essential' category.

It's no wonder they're better known for a few great singles than for any of their albums.
