Re: REAP CORNER
Fairly average
Musically fine, just a non descript vocalist. Always a bug bear of mine. The cherry on the cake for any great prog band must be a distinctive vocalist, and they're as rare as hen's teeth. Plenty of brilliant musicians, a dearth of Andersons.

Re: REAP CORNER
Grown to like this album over the years... and it's got Jon Anderson. Over fussy drumming, though
Musically, very Crimson like. Adequate vocals, more over fussy drumming
My favourite Caravan album, as they sound as though they're actually enjoying themselves. Can be such a muso, po faced band

Pretty standard stuff from J Mascis & Co which is fine by me - there will never be enough of his guitar in this world.

Re: REAP CORNER
Todd Rundgren's Utopia
Todd's full-on venture into progressive rock is mostly successful, I guess. The first live song is great, and the "Freak Parade" cut is more or less his usual power pop. There's an honest-to-goodness thirty-minute song on side two though - makes you wonder how compressed that LP was in 1974 to fit that much music onto vinyl. The whole album is almost an hour long. Yes, you read that right.

A dry run for the following year's Initiation (nearly 68 minutes long)!
I like "The Ikon" (Side 2) a lot, and would be curious to hear the un-edited recording - although I suspect "the short version" is better...

Yeah, there were lots of issues with Initiation as I recall though.

This is crazy for a single LP, they must sound like shit. I thought some Genesis albums were too long but none were that long. Side one of Wind and Wuthering is 27 minutes and it always sounded terrible on vinyl so I can imagine how bad a 30+minute album side would sound.

I'm not the audiophile that some on this site are, but I always thought it sounded fine.
I was reading about it on Wikipedia earlier today. Apparently Rundgren wanted a double-LP (his previous "solo" album Todd was a double, and was shorter than Initiation!), but because of the vinyl shortage at the time his record company insisted he make it a single disc; he accomplished this by rolling off some of the low-end and slightly speeding up some tracks (including the entirely-instrumental second half of the album). (I'm surprised that a speed-corrected version has never been issued on CD.) He wrote a note on the inner sleeve advising that playing the record with an even slightly worn stylus would likely destroy it.

That's interesting Chris
I have always considered them the opposite. You only have to look at the content of some of their songs , the titles and the words and of course their album titles.
If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You and Cunning Stunts and the one you posted - doesn't seem to me to be a po faced band...?
But we beg to differ!

I've no idea Is it supposed to be his idea as to what a leprechaun with a Scottish accent might sound like? Who knows what goes on in the mind of Todd? I don't think even he knows

Big Big Train - Common Ground
Released today.
After recent changes in the personnel it does sound slightly different from the last few albums which is no bad thing. A slight reboot I suppose one might say.
