Probably their worst album, Jeremy Spencer dominates, say no more.

And yet the album cover suggests something more pastoral. It's admirable that Jeremy had a hero in Elmore, but he just had the ability to make all his songs/covers so one dimensional, so .....boring?

50s' rock and roll pastiche dull, dull, dull.

Now this is a very good album, Spencer had gone, songwriting left to McVie and Kirwan - a massive step forward.

A group memorable for a couple of tracks, neither of which are on this album. Not much memorable here.

Anyone see this last night on Sky Arts?

Crikey I'm glad I wasn't there, death by boredom I reckon, I could only last 3 tracks. When they did short and to the point they were pretty good on record but all those squealing extended guitar solos etc. it's just so dull.

Sorry C. I know you like it.

Re Steppenwolf : Amazing how many bands seem capable of making one blistering track and the rest is just bog standard and formulaic.
Sky Arts tonight, Rob.........9pm The Yardbirds .....should be good !

Their best and I really like it

I think they were a lot more than “one blistering track”

The issue was the over exposure of ‘the big 3’

Magic Carpet Ride, The Pusher later featured in the film Easy Rider and of course the ubiquitous Born to be Wild also on Easy Rider

These overshadowed many excellent tracks particularly on the first two albums and Monster

LMG wrote:If more of the trickier/complex jazzers in the sixties had made records this lush and inviting, the more inventive side of jazz might have caught on.

Kenny G may never have happened.

Crikey, nearly forgot, thanks for the reminder Chris, I’ll have to record it as we’ve got friends over tonight.

Yes, I like the album and yes, I saw the recent viewing on Sky Arts (for the second time)

Great to see grumpy old Peter narrating Pressed Rat & Warthog

[The solos were shorter than back in the day - a less than 9 minute I'm So Glad or a 16 minute Spoonful...? Disgraceful]

Bought this as a very nearly half price BF offering. Of course I’ve got all the songs already but this is a very nice album - you might like this Chris as you were enquiring about their middle years albums a while ago, I seem to remember.

Yes, excellent

Out of the 'folk trilogy' I marginally prefer Heavy Horses
