Journey sucks

They really do.

Don't they?

there was a guy - a nice guy I might add - on a message board that used to swing. this guy thought Journey and Steve Perry were the high water marks of artistic achievement in music. Nearly every music thread became a comparison between whoever the thread was about and Journey.

now that I think about it, this might be around the time that board stopped swinging.

Don't much care for 'em, but they don't especially offend me, either.

You'd have to look long and hard before you'd find a frontman as vomit-inducing as Steve Perry.

Seems to be a popular complaint, but I never got it. He's like a smooover Marty Balin. I much prefer Marty, but I sure don't hate Steve.

Yes.

One of the most strident-sounding and annoying bands to ever reach the top 40. Almost wholly without redeeming qualities.

If you look up putrid in a dictionary, the entry is accompanied by a photo of the eunuch Steve Perry.

Their record covers even suck.

In this age of hope, when a negro man will soon ascend the throne of power in the most supreme country of the world, I honestly never thought I'd hear a disparaging word against the geniuses that gave the world 'Don't Stop Believing'.

Fuck you all.

I like Infinity. My 8th grade rock discovery.

I worked in a cabinet shop in high school and my boss beat up Neil Schon. They both went to Hillsdale High School.

Or so he says.

They have five or six good songs*, which is more than I can say for a lot of bands. But they are very strident, and can get on my nerves. And I imagine a poor Journey song (I'm assuming most of the rest of them) is probably a very terrible thing.

* Certainly "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'", "Wheel in the Sky", and "Lights", and "Who's Crying Now", "Don't Stop Believing", and "Anyway You Want It" are pretty good also.

Not only do they suck, but they also had a video arcade machine that also sucked:

The game even played Separate Ways during gameplay, from a cassette player built into the casing. No wonder few played it.

There was also a different game for the Atari VCS allegedly based on the album Escape:

It looked like it was just something else that had been cheaply rebranded at the last minute by adding a snippet of Don't Stop Believing to the start of the game. The game was the first release from this manufacturer, and sold so little that the company never managed to recoup the licensing fees for using the Journey name, and folded soon after.

Yes, you could make a very strong 80 minute cdr from the first three albums, but I believe this discussion is really about the Steve Perry era and beyond. Although Steve shouldn't be the only one who brought them down. Jonathan Caine? I dropped them from my radar afer the third album so I can only speak of the later music through osmosis. Fortunately I haven't been a radio person since the 70s and none of my friends listened to the band either so I've managed to avoid their music for the most part.

Possibly the worst thing ever. "Strident" is a good way to put it.

Every once in a while I think Don't Stop Believin' has some kind of virtue that just escapes me. It's like the winner by unanimous consent in an ugly baby contest.

Maybe that it has the same chord progression as "Another Girl, Another Planet"?
