Probably the King Crimson album, though Ommadawn and the Quiet Sun record tempted me.

I've gone for the Carlssoneque choice of Samuri. A very intriguing album which should be much more widely known imo.

Another good selection but Ommadawn would have got my vote on pretty much any list of great albums.

This is ridiculous...
Camel - Snow Goose
Gentle Giant - Octopus
Hatfield & The North: The Rotters Club.
King Crimson - Starless & Bible Black
All of these belong in the canon, and arguably Olfield & Hamill as well.
I refuse to take part in this travesty!!!

Hatfield & The North: The Rotters Club.

The Snow Goose is certainly not good enough. Prog lite, at its very worst. Bland.
Octopus is overegged and too heavy. Any of their other early albums are much better.
The Rotters club is obscure and overcomplicated. lacks good melodies, and mistakes smart alec twiddling for inspired playing.
The King Crimson album is a great progressive record.

Hatfield and the North. Great music and the best album cover on the list.

Very difficult. There are five here that are worthy
Gentle Giant
King Crimson are the top 2
It'll have to be GG

Re: Progressive Canon - 2 of 4
I went for Starless & Bible Black, which remains one hell of a great album. Slightly painful memories of this album. I bought it on the way home from being paid at work (shit job-shit money.) When I got home, I realised my pay packet was missing. I was saving up for an engagement ring as well, so I wasn’t very popular. I still have the album and the woman though, so it wasn't all bad.

I also think we’re caving in a bit to the prog-intolerant and that’s a bad thing: it has been fun reading their indignant Mr. Angry posts

Hmmm, weakish list I thought, then I could see why... and because I nominated the Far Cry in the first place ( I think, I feel I have to vote for it.
