.
Relaxing with a delicious glass of claret and playing two of my many go to albums:
It got me thinking about what some of the Goons said a while back about not imagining playing that many albums over 100 times.
Well, these two gems, plus Sandy's debut Fotheringay album, have been played easily in excess of 200 times (probably 300)
These albums, like 90% of what I play are over 50 years old.
200 divided by 50 is four plays a year
That's on average once every three months - that is NOTHING!
I could list umpteen albums that have had over 200 plays and many 300 also
I am sure I'm not alone.
Am I....?
Views...?

Re: 200 plays plus.....!
I suppose if music largely stopped for you in 1974 that’s going to happen.
I doubt I have played any album more than 50 times in my life, and that would include the days when I only had a handful so more likely to get repeat plays.
My oft-mentioned all time favourite albums Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over Thea, Big Big Train’s English Electric Full Power and Midlake’s The Trials Of Van Occupanther only get about 1 play a year if that, and even though I know them inside out, they still sound quite fresh and exciting to me.
My love for them would fade if I played them more regularly. Everyone’s brain is different of course but I suspect if I played them more often I would no longer really hear them.
As you know, much of what I play is NEW MUSIC, and even though there is rarely an album I play that is in the same ballpark as the above, personally I find it an interesting and exciting journey of discovery.
But here’s the thing - each to our own, eh, each to our own.

You make some good points, Bob.
We are all different, you are absolutely correct. There are certain albums that I can’t play anymore. Wish you were here and Dark side of the Moon are two examples that leave me cold but that’s probably because they weren’t ever up there in the seminally robust category. However, Atom Heart Mother is and is a 200 plus album.
However, the Sandy Denny albums above are - I never tire of them - in fact they sound as fresh now as when I heard them back in the day.
As you were

Re: 200 plays plus.....!
Agree with much of what his Lordship says.
I wouldn’t play the albums that are my favourites over and over again in case I tired of them, in fact I started a thread many years ago mentioning this sort of thing which pretty much died soon after it started. There is no favourite album in my collection that I would never play again and when I do I still really like them.
Also I have a very large collection of albums both on vinyl and CD and so there is always something to choose from which I haven’t heard for quite some time (Dave Mason for example). If I played all the albums I’ve got continuously from this moment in time I think they would still be going long after me and there would still be all the compilations after that.
There really isn’t any album that I’ve got that I’ve played anywhere near a 100 times.

Re: 200 plays plus.....!
The ones that seem to get the most plays these days are the cds in my car. Yeah, I know, a cd player, but, although my car is relatively new, the first thing I looked for when buying it (Nissan Qashqai) was if it had a cd player . So, some CDs seem to stay in the car for a long time ......usually more modern bands to appease Mrs B, such as Vampire Weekend, Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes. ...but I'd be surprised if they reached 50 plays. Those who might be reaching close to 100 are the usual suspects....Yes, Genesis, Television, The Smiths, but nowhere near 200. Yes and Genesis 50 years old, Television nearly 40 years and the young guns of the group, the Smiths

Wish I had a CD player in my car.
I had a friend who had a cassette player put in every new vehicle he bought, it was his preferred format, mind you he had terrible music taste.

Re: 200 plays plus.....!
At bedtime, from the day our boys were born, we played a disc which Yomptepi kindly burnt for us with contained Brian Eno’s 1/1 from Music for Airports.
The track is about 16 minutes long times 4
We played that for about 7 years at least
So not an album but a track
Plays: 7x365x4
You do the math(s)
Subsequently, the damage was done…

Good grief, you probably need counselling - that’s what they all go in for these days isn’t it?

Crikey, look at the size of that steering wheel. Keith Moon had a record player in one of his cars as I remember, don’t suppose it lasted long.
