A Rhodes Scholar, Golden Gloves boxer and football player in college. He received a masters in English from Merton College at the Unviversity of Oxford in England and subsequently turned down a chance to teach at the US military Academy at West Point in NY because he wanted to pursue songwring in Nashville. Supposedly, he was working as a janitor at Columbia Records Music Row Studio in 1966 when Dylan recorded Blonde on Blonde there.
Not to mention he wrote "Sunday Morning Coming Down," "Help Me Make it Through the Night," "Me and Bobbie McGee," and "For the Good Times," - all classic country songs.

Legend enough to have 2 tribute threads on BCB.
Gonna play The Austin Sessions on my way to the office.

And neither of us even mentioned his film work.

Went through his 'filmography': I've not watched any of them.

Your loss. He worked with Scorcese, Peckinpah, Mazursky, Cimino, and Sayles. Not too shabby for a country singer/songwriter.

You're probably right.
I'm just really not very much into movies and stuff.

All I have to say is that it is amazing that the two Kris threads were started within a minute of each other
As you were

Hightea,
JJ's version doesn;t come close to KK's rendition on The Austin Sessions.
The way it was meant to be. None of that screaming shit.

Would be a legend if this was the only song he ever wrote. One of my favorite songs ever
Bryan Ferry does an awesome cover on Another Time Another Place

People (usually guys) always have extreme reactions to Janis' voice. The usual suspects shat themselves the other day when Neil posted a Joplin album on his list of great LPs of 1969, as if they were offended by its mere existence.
Unlike Janis, Kris really couldn't sing, but like Dylan, was able to convey his songs to the listener in a realistic manner.

I agree with your opinion on Kris' (lack of) singing voice. Not sure if JJ can sing. It's simply too hard for me to listen to her voice. That screeching sound hurts my head. If she'd made a record with Robert Plant and I'd been forced to listen to it, I probably would have entered a monastery or a sanatorium.

Was going to post Kris’s version but went with Janis. Really just love the song plenty of bands do great covers of it.

Rewatched ”Lone Star” in his honour. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a ’90s film I like better. Seemed to disappear for about 20 years but apparently there’s a new blu-ray remaster and it’s suddenly available to stream.
It’s great that he was so self-effacing in his acting work - even in ”Alice..” and ”A Star is Born” he leaves room for the main attraction.

Yeah, loved Lone Star, and not just because I'm from Texas! LOL. Kris was a humble guy, and even if he peaked early as a songwriter - his greatest songs are timeless.
Check out Cisco Pike, which has a newish blu ray as well. A pretty good early '70s hippie movie (I eat that shit up) with Gene Hackman. Kristofferson was very believable in those kinds of roles.
