You probably know him for "You're only lonely".
Almost became a member of the Eagles, was a member of the Souther Hillman Furey band.
Dated Linda Ronstadt.
Made a pre-Eagles album with Glenn Frey as Longbranch Pennywhistle.
Apparently had a bad personal reputation but I appreciated his music.
He was 78.
RIP J.D.Souther

Not only Linda but also Stevie Nicks! (See the generic RIP thread)

Thought that he did play with the Eagles for a while but I stand corrected. He definitely wrote/co wrote some of their biggest hits and well known songs.

I think he did an album with Glenn Frey, but not with the Eagles, but it matters not:
Linda Ronstadt and Stevie Nicks. What a hero.

I absolutely love "New Kid in Town."
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Good Lord, this is the closest thing to BCB saying something positive about the Eagles that I've ever read.

Re: RIP J.D.Souther
The Eagles were one of the first bands I got into in my teens.
I remember studying sleeves and record labels of every LP I bought back then to see who had written each song.
There were quite a few different names in addition to the band members on Eagles LPs. I knew who "(J) Browne" was, and soon learnt about "(T) Waits", but in those pre-internet days it was a while before I found out about "(JD) Souther", and even longer before I listened to some of the records that he'd made (solo or otherwise).
The one I probably like and revisit the most is the first Souther-Hillman-Furay Band LP from 1974
RIP JD

Tremendous Roy Orbison pastiche. Of course, they were both Texans (as is Don Henley).
Roy was famously known as ”the Big O”. He in turn referred to Don as ”that little c”.
