I saw Liam open for the Who and I'll say this, unless his voice has been lost in the last five years, he can sing their hits as good as he did before. That's a good bit of "will it be worth it" settled for the good I think.

I’m not very good at remembering 90s bands but perhaps Belly, Throwing Muses, Husker Du, Pavement, Breeders, Bob Mould, Built to Spill, Dinosaur Jr had albums in the 90s
I gave up with NEW MUSIC after that
.
And who can blame you.
But there is some good stuff amongst the Brit Pop dross, inevitably.
I was happy that Brit Pop came along because I never really got the whole shoegazey scene, I liked a bit of Spacemen 3 and
Loop, and Obviously MBV, but it had all gone a bit American and it was nice to get some decent UK bands again.
Because while I liked bits of grunge and bands like Sugar, it all got a bit meagre between 89-93 roughly.
Then Suede and the Manics made it all good again
I'm pretty sure you'd like Super Furry Animals and Gorky's as there is a proggy side to both of them
Moorcock, Moorcock, Michael Moorcock, you fervently moan.

I wouldn't put Gorky's under the "Britpop" moniker. Their music is very folkish and - dare I say? - proggy. Psychedelic, even! Despite that, I very much like this band. 'Barafundle' and 'The Blue Trees' are my favorites. I'm sure Carlsson would agree if he had the guts to step up to the plate.

It's a bit strange, because it wasn't difficult to get tickets for them back then, and they weren't particularly good live. It's just one of those things that if someone famous stops doing something for a while, the collective public consciousness seems to decide that they were great at it. I genuinely didn't think their profile was THAT high over here either. I remember being a bit baffled at the televised gig that followed the Manchester Arena bombing, they kept going on about someone really special appearing soon as a guest slot ... and then it was Liam Gallagher, and I was kind of ... oh.
If they are only doing 5 tour dates at these big stadiums it should sell out although maybe not (lately seems to be a put back on large stadium shows not named Taylor). Certainly if they were just playing arenas. Could be wrong but looking how the UK shows sold out we will also have an influx of UK folks coming to NY show at least. Still sure cheap tickets will show up the last few days before show seems to be the norm now. Times have changed and lot more older folks(let alone young ones) now going to shows who might not have seen them back in the day.

I agree, they are just bands who released music during that period. I think you could add even more - Stereophonics, Reef and the Seahorses were old fashioned rock bands, Gorky's, as pointed out above and a proggy folk band
Carlsson should definitely give Barafundle a go if pastoral prog is in anyway his thing

The Boo Radleys head and shoulders above the rest.
Teenage Fanclub have one song I’d like played at my funeral (Gene Clarke).
And then I really don’t care anymore.

Sounds like 60-70's
different hooks and melodies but similair.
different lyrics in a style like the past
no over the top singing like modern pop.

Re: Oasis - so what do you think?
They were criticized back in the day as being a copy of the Beatles, however, I heard a comment about Oasis, then that still holds true now. I don't remember it exactly, but essentially they are an ok copy of just one string in the Bealtes bow. They have nowhere near the invention and originality of the Beatles. All their later songs sound like poor reworkings of the earlier stuff from "Definitely Maybe" and "Be Here Now", and they sound like copies of early Beatles songs. I like the two albums mentioned, but I don't understand why anyone would want to hear any more.
