Rock and roll is seventy

No longer Dad music among the fans, rock and roll is more like Granddad music! For it was in July 1954 that Elvis, Scotty, and Bill did enter the studio and cut "That's All Right", and rockabilly, a close cousin of rock and roll, was born.

"That's All Right" cemented the term and the style of rock and roll in the collective unconscious. There were other rock and roll forerunners, and the term itself had been popularized by Alan Freed as early as 1952. Freed was a popular DJ who also promoted the first rock and roll concert, The Moondog Coronation Ball, that same year, 1952.
"When the desert comes, people will be sad; just as Cannery Row was sad when all the pilchards were caught and canned and eaten." - John Steinbeck
