Re: A thread for live footage from yesteryear
I've been bingeing Joan Armatrading lately and found these, which include three great and one less great version of my favourite song, Cool Blue Stole My Heart
BBC Sight & Sound, November 1977, Hammersmith Odeon, with the wonderful Jerry Donahue (g), Red Young (keys), Bryan Garofalo (b), Quitman Dennis (sax, fl) and David Kemper (dr) - Cool Blue at 35:30
1st Rockpalast gig, recorded 15 February 1979 and broadcast later on the local German TV stations, with the just as wonderful Ricky Hirsh (Wet Willie), Red Young (keys), Bill Bodine (b), Lon Price (sax, fl), Art Rodriguez (dr), Cool Blue at 9:25 and a fabulous, very muscular version of Opportunity at 26:00
2nd Rockpalast gig, broadcast live on 19 April 1980 on German national TV, with the still fantastic Ricky Hirsh (g), Richard Belke (g), Bill Bodine (b), Dick Sims (keys) and the extraordinary Richie Hayward (from Little Feat) on drums, Cool Blue at 7:29
3rd Rockpalast gig, 25 October 2007, with only Joan on guitar, backed by John Giblin (b), Spencer Cozens (dr) and Gary Foote (dr, sax), Cool Blue at 44:23 (without the guitar solo, it's just not the same)
... and btw, the live version of Cool Blue from Steppin' Out, recorded in June 1979, is still the best of all.

David Bowie, Sydney, 20 November 1983
Can't embed the footage, unfortunately.
The only time I saw David Bowie live was on that "Serious Moonlight" tour, three weeks later (in Bangkok, 9 December 1983)
I still think it's a great show, very muscular band, with the Dame in peroxide dandy mode, hot guitars courtesy of Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick and the Simms Brothers on backing vocals and theatrics.

Holy Crap! Rick van der Linden.
His band Ekseption was horrific, but he amazingly managed to lower the bar with Trace.
The first album has his cousin Pierre van der Linden, of Focus fame, on it. It's terrible, but not as bad as the third and fortunately last album, The White Ladies. How we laughed...
His thought behind starting Trace (initially named Ace, but that name was already taken by undoubtedly another crap band), is to become a 'supergroup' like ELP (same set up: keyboards, bass, drums). The thought of it. Rick (with Ekseption, the Nice of the Lowlands) became world famous in The Netherlands by putting a beat under compositions by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven etc. It was "Stars on 45' (another Dutch abomination; no wonder I left the place as soon as I could) avant la lettre.
Carlsson, please remove this post. It's repulsive.
(Glad you're Carlsson again )

The late Carla Bley with her band live in 1980, playing the wonderful Reactionary Tango at 28:15 as well as some of the songs she wrote for Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports (I'm A Mineralist, Can't Get My Motor To Start, Boo To You Too). Great stuff!!

That's ace!
I saw him in Manchester too, but it was 1980, great gig!
Here's Pentangle on German TV, circa 1969/70
