Apparently would solo all day, but hated playing chords. Yes, a very distinctive guitarist but, I feel, needed to be part of a group rather than having the responsibilty of being a leader/main man. Let's be honest, Back street Crawler were no great shakes.

Yes, completely agree, he needed just to be able to play the guitar in a band, with a very strong frontman/composer leading the way. Sadly, he probably had that to a large degree with Rodgers but he was on a mission with drugs.

Great guitarist, one of the greatest. But not as a band leader, he needed strong players beside him.

Unfortunately in those years the medical and psychiatric help available wasn't what it was these days.

Tragic but that goes for all drug related deaths.
