Keepers of the flame

Postby GoogaMooga » 25 Jan 2024, 14:10

Hiya, here is a thread where we can namecheck the keepers of the flame, those artists who keep an old or forgotten genre alive. Not something like doo wop revival acts, but people who tour and record, who have made a name for themselves. So, no tribute bands or revival acts, we are looking for proper and original recording artists.

I think it's important to distinguish between a "keeper of the flame" and a "survivor". The octogenarian superstars today, like Rolling Stones, they are not keepers of the flame. They are survivors.

First up is disco, slick Eurodisco with a Nordic cool. Vinnie Who is the artist, and I do believe he is one of those one man operations like White Town in the UK who does everything by himself.

Vinnie Who is young, he can write, he can sing, and he knows his music history like the back of his hand, as he takes Eurodisco to another level of sophistication and panache.

Vinnie Who is cloud nine for hotsteppers. In the vocal department, he can measure up to "il castrato" Jimmy Somerville for that high-pitched, highly-charged disco decadence that is so sought after.

Vinnie Who has recorded one EP and three albums.

This is the EP from 2011, "A Step", and it is wonderful:
