Re: Prog* Cup 2022
Haven't you exhausted the genre yet?
I'd like to see the original BCB cup resurrected, albeit in amended form if the size of the lists was the issue, or a second round of 60s or Folk, basically anything but yet another feckin' Prog Cup.

Yeah.
An 'old-fashioned' BCB cup could stir up interest in some lapsed members for sure. Would be great to see that over the summer months.

I have very little interest in prog, but would like to play in the old BCB Cup.

I like the genre format and would prefer a second 60s or folk (or anything else) cup to the "anything goes" big one, TBH

Re: Prog* Cup 2022
I'd play an old fashioned BCB cup. couldn't get past the second round though. Never knew how a guy like Mike Boom could win it multiple times. One has to have that talent of choosing tunes with broad appeal, yet insular enough for hipsters. Couldn't find that balance.

Well, if there's enough interest I could be arsed to run it.
Just need to know how many initial tracks/number of added tracks after progressing.

Re: Prog* Cup 2022
I think the adding of tracks was the issue, as people couldn't be bothered to plough through for examle 20 v 20 X 4 ties.
What about 5 v 5 and you have to replace all 5 each round ? You could also then announce the result of each tie in full, without having to preserve the identity of the winner.

Re: Prog* Cup 2022
.. and although it would be good if we can get 16, 32, 64 etc we invariably fall just short or have some on standby for withdrawals. Can we please just announce a deadline and then use byes if need be. None of this lucky loser or 3 way tie bollocks. Anyone moaning about having to play an extra round can do one. This is the normal common sense, tried and tested way of running a knock out competition. If you are going to complain about losing in the first round when others get a bye, well some are going to lose te first time they play, does it really matter which round it is?

Re: Prog* Cup 2022
I hope we are lucky enough to scrape up 32 players which would mean 4 rounds...does 10 tracks plus 3 additional ones per round sound reasonable?

Fine by me, but getting up to the numbers that people seemed to complain about. Obviously need to encourage voting as well as participation, hence my suggestion, but I'm happy either way.

Re: Prog* Cup 2022
Once we've decided we're going ahead with it, I'll PROMOTE it on Preludin and ask your kind friend Adam to do the same on his board.
I think we're all keen to join in on something like this, and it'll be nice to bring us all together for a SUMMER TRUCE - where prog fans can get along with punk fans, Zappa bores can associate with Spector bores, and even where collectors of second-hand absolute SHIT PAP on CD can talk to streaming steaming audiophiles

Let's get numbers first and then we can discuss the format.
I'd guess that since it has been such a long time ago that we had a proper Cup that it should be a bit easier to settle on a number of tracks and get some votes in.

Re: SUMMER TRUCE Cup 2022
I'd be in for a track vs track cup of almost any sort.
I wouldn't be in for the old-school 10 tracks that no-one listens to cup.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I will commit to making an effort to vote in every round.
just to spite DF, I will also commit to listening to at least 30 seconds of every entry I vote on.
I won't really commit to submitting a list until I know more about it.

C'mon, that's no fun. You should submit a list that you know nothing about!

Re: SUMMER TRUCE Cup 2022
I’m totally in for signing up then taking forever to get a list in then getting defensive about it then finally getting it in then voting in every round while advancing to the semis then losing to an inferior list under questionable circumstances then complaining about it for years afterwards.
You know, like always.
