My daughter punted that my way.
A very good listen particularly as a social commentary of the time.
A couple of cringy talking heads but 95% of it is top notch.
Highly recommended.
Can you recommend any similar standard musical docu listen?

I’m sure I can, but they tend to be few and far between. I have yet to find any consistently great stuff but I will get back to you on this. There’s many that I have listened to and forgotten, frankly!

A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs is the greatest podcast in the world ever!
I don't understand why everyone doesn't listen to it so we can rave about it on here.
I think pcqgod and I are the only two who listen to it but we both love it.
And so should you!

It is a wonderful podcast, slightly worried it won't get to the 500. Can't believe the length of the most recent episodes but they are remarkably informative. Have come to really enjoy the presenter's dry, slightly ponderous style as well as being awed by his knowledge and research.

I agree with every word you've said. I want him to get a move on before his health gives out.
And then I feel bad.
I feel that the current episode is too long. Churlish I know. I think he could have made one episode each about Paperback Writer, SF/PL and All You Need Is Love, and they could have been just(!) two hours each.
Still, as you say, remarkably informative. I've bought the first two books and I'll definitely buy any more he produces.

The Elvis Costello autobiog audiobook is read by him and is very good.
Listened to it over many dog walks last summer

Baron swears by the Podcast Cocaine and Rhinestones.

Right. Gonna dial that in. I need a break from the relentlessly bleak legal and political things I mostly listen to.

It's excellent. In fact, I think I first discovered it from Baron giving it the good press on here.
Unfortunately, its subject matter is largely outside of my areas of knowledge and interest so i don't actually love it. I would think it would be brilliant for anyone who likes country music.

Please report back what you think of it. I'm genuinely curious to know what people think of it.

Both exceptional.
A must for the musically obsessed.
I learned lots.

Excellent. I think that's the way to go: start at the beginning and work your way through. I got a real sense of the development of the music like that. For example, I listened to Love Me Do (episode 100) with completely new ears when it was placed in the context of what went before.
Anyway, glad you're enjoying it.

Re: A worthwhile listen on Ziggy at 50
I, too, listened to the first two episodes and enjoyed them. I learned that Connie Kay played on Big Joe Turner's "Shake, Rattle, and Roll!" The episodes were good and I'm sure I'll listen to more. The host's extremely dry delivery is a little weird, but I put up with other similar crap on podcasts I listen to all the time, so it's hard for me to object to that.
