The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Yesterday's synch listen was an absolute delight.
What a great band they were but did they make it outside of Blighty....?
The usual favourites but what about The Impossible Dream - yesterday's feature.
Popular? Unknown? Unfamiliar?
Who knows but let's talk about Alex and the lads and consider our fave studio album
LET'S ROCK!!

Re: The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
First album by them was "Tomorrow belongs to me". Not sure why I bought it as I wasn't impressed with Alex on Whistle Test singing "Next". Think it might have been for the cover. It's ok....and then I went out and bought " The impossible dream". Don't know why.....must have had more money than sense. It was...ok. I can appreciate them but have no love for them. Find them cold and rather calculating

He wants certainly a performer - they were almost more an experience than just a band performing.

Tomorrow Belongs To Me was the first I got, never heard them, just liked the cover and the LP was deleted adn cheap in America. Loved it.
Other favourite would be Next but the others are all close.
'Action Strasse' and 'Faith Healer' are the kind of SAHB, indeed the kind of rock, I like.

You have to admit that among the hundreds of Tull covers that exist, that is near the top.

They were the second live act I ever saw, opening for Slade at Earls Court in 73.
That was a fuckin' eye opener for a ten year old, I can tell you

Impossible Dream and Next. Anthem is superb, even with the bagpipes.

Re: The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
They didn't really get much attention in Aus, if i remember correctly. I only discovered them long after.
I like songs on all the first few albums, and think they are all pretty good examples of their kind.
Back when he was still just Alex Harvey, i love this version of 'Midnight Moses'; great percussion and the horn arrangement is killer...

Why do you think that was? To British (theatrical?) too Scottish (accent?) - well probably not being SC/DC were Scots... Did Deliah go down well?

Indeed!
Interesting - perhaps SAHB were a band that just didn't travel well for no 'fixed/pinpointed read'

Re: The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
They were not exactly chart-toppers in this country.
The sensibility was very European - maybe even very Glaswegian.
I think you need to understand history, literature and irony to get SAHB properly
The Yanks and Aussies would rather Grand Funk or some other less cerebral fare

Re: The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Nah, but Quo fit the bill nicely in Aus, very popular at the time.

Re: The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
I love the Quo - especially during the period that SAHB were active. 1972-1977 is PEAK Quo.
And unlike SAHB they *were* massively popular here.
Piledriver came out the same time as Framed (very end of 72)
Hello! around the same time as Next
Quo just a couple of months before The Impossible Dream
On the Level just before Tomorrow Belongs to Me
Blue for You the same month (March 76) as The Penthouse Tapes
and
Rockin' All Over the World just before Rock Drill.
